WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work Setting, including hazards:    
    1. Work is performed almost exclusively indoors in an office environment.  
  • Schedule:   
    1. This position is currently part-time and typically works 28 hours per week.
    2. Workload demands may require work outside the assigned work hours and adjustment of work schedules.
  • Travel Requirements: 
    1. Occasional travel to meetings with partners along the coast or across the state to conduct related business or to attend/provide trainings.
  • Customer Interactions:
    1. Frequent contact with clients, including those who may be frustrated.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in one of the following:
    1. Natural Resource.
    2. Environmental Science.
    3. Environmental Planning.
    4. Public Administration with an environmental emphasis.
    5. Public Policy with an environmental emphasis. 
    6. Other closely-related field.

AND

  • Three (3) years of professional experience in one or more of the following:
    1. Natural Resources.
    2. Environmental Science.
    3. Environmental Planning.
    4. Public Administration.
    5. Environmental Policy.
    6. Other closely-related experience.

OR 

  • One (1) year of experience as an Environmental Planner 3, or a closely allied field.

Please note:  

  • Professional equivalent experience may substitute, year for year, for the education requirement. 
  • Approximately two (2) years of the above required experience needs to include using advanced principles of management – such as strategic planning, developing and monitoring budgets, contract negotiation, program/project management, and/or conflict resolution.

Demonstrated experience and strong competence in the following:

  • Leading and facilitating an interdisciplinary team or work groups to achieve desired and productive outcomes.
  • Managing multiple work assignments and priorities on varied time scales.
  • Demonstrated organization and time management skills to effectively prioritize workload and maximize efficiency.
  • Ability to seek and act on opportunities to improve, streamline, and re-invent work processes.
  • Basic use of Microsoft Office programs (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • A Master’s degree in natural resource or environmental science, natural resource or environmental planning, or public administration or public policy with an environmental emphasis, or a closely related field.

     AND  

  • An additional three (3) years of experience in natural resource or environmental science, natural resource or environmental planning, or public administration or public policy with an environmental emphasis, or closely related experience. 

OR 

  • One (1) year of experience as an Environmental Planner 3. 
  • Experience applying knowledge of fish and wildlife biology, habitat science, and ecology to anticipate fish, wildlife, and habitat needs, potential impacts, and likely remedies.
  • Knowledge of natural resource laws, policies, and programs, and how these affect and/or enable fish, wildlife, and habitat conservation in Washington State, and the ability to interpret and apply them in order to achieve expected results.
