Cascadia Conservation District is a non-regulatory organization, dedicated to the stewardship of natural resources in Chelan County.  We are primarily grant funded and are a part of the statewide network of conservation districts.  We work closely with local landowners, partners, conservation groups and agencies to develop and implement opportunities for stewardship and conservation across the county.

Cascadia is seeking a talented and skilled applicant to join our team as a part time, seasonal Resource Technician. The basic function of this position will be to assist the Project Coordinator to implement and provide support to weed control, riparian restoration, and stream enhancement projects. The duties of the position will be directed by the Project Coordinator, with oversight and guidance from the Executive Director. The Resource Technician will be expected to work cooperatively with private landowners, other District staff, and local, state, and federal agency staff. This is a seasonal position with an expected term of at least 4 months, with the potential to be extended if needed.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

• Implementation of assigned natural resource related field activities including weed identification, control and mapping; restoration planting projects and maintenance, and other associated work such as data entry and reporting.
• Assist with riparian restoration planning and implementation projects.
• Operate GIS to perform data management, data upkeep, and some data analysis.
• Support development of grant application(s), project reports and outreach activities.
• Monitor project status to ensure progress toward completion.
• Provide technical/field assistance as needed for project implementation and monitoring efforts.
• Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director, Project Coordinator or Resource Specialist.

Background:

The basic objective of this position is to provide technical assistance to District staff and partners to implement natural resource assessment, restoration, enhancement, and education and outreach activities.  The Resource Technician will be under the direction of the Project Coordinator with oversight guidance from the Executive Director.

Typical Work:

Qualifications

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree with college coursework in natural resource management, environmental or agricultural sciences, water quality, wildlife management, ecology or a closely related field(s).
• May substitute High School diploma or GED equivalent with at least one year of science coursework for degree.
• Experience as a field/scientific technician or a combination of college coursework and experience may be substituted for education requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must have demonstrated ability in handling multiple projects and be capable of working with diverse individuals and small groups.
• Experienced and able to use and maintain small power tools and hand tools.
• Must be self-motivated, reliable, and able to work independently.
• Must be willing and able to adapt to flexible work schedules.
• Must be able to carry up to 60lbs.
• Must be able to work in remote and rugged locations under a variety of weather conditions, traverse difficult upland and instream terrain, and be able to wade streams and carry field equipment necessary to complete required job tasks.
• High level of literacy in computers and computer applications such as MS Office applications (Word, Excel are essential) and basic GIS software.
• Able to interpret aerial and topographic maps, as well as navigate using maps and GPS.
• Must have, or be able to obtain and maintain, a valid Washington State driver’s license.
• Ability to work closely with others in both a public office and field environment, complete project administrative duties as needed, and conduct outreach and educational activities.
• Ability to effectively communicate with coworkers, partners, landowners, and the public.
• Must have strong organizational and written/verbal communication skills and be capable of maintaining accurate records, including time-keeping and authorized expenses.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of Eastern Washington flora, fauna and ecology.
• Experience in conducting fish and lamprey monitoring.
• Experience in GIS and ESRI products (ArcPro, Collector, etc.).
• Experience in restoration and water quality methods and monitoring.
• Experience in landscape maintenance, such as weed whacking, watering/irrigation, chipping, planting, and mulching.
