Summary
About the Position: This position is with the Directorate of Plans and Training Mobility and Security Range Division located in Joint Base Lewis McChord, WA.
Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of maintenance tasks on ranges, facilities, and training areas.
- Perform quality assurance inspections.
- Perform operational tests on multiple Target Systems using technical manuals, test equipment (voltmeter), and makes visual examinations to troubleshoot causes of malfunctions
- Perform general maintenance tasks and assist in maintaining ranges, facilities, and equipment to support range operations.
- Perform grass cutting, clean target pits, reshape target berms, clear training areas, install and remove target system batteries, service target systems, and remove debris from training ranges.
- Perform basic carpentry work repairing target framing, limit marks, signage, flagpoles, and other components as required.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Range Maintenance Technician (MVO) without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common and routine Range Maintenance Technician (MVO) duties. I can perform the tasks by gathering tools and supplies, carrying materials, and lifting materials. Operate simple tools to assemble and repair target devices; operate basic lawnmower to cut grass and weeds; and kept tools cleans and lubricated. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey level employee who observes in progress and upon completion make sure they are properly performed. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

- PHYSICAL EFFORT: Make repairs and installations from ladders, trenches, and hard to reach places. Stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Work requires climbing up and down a steep flight of stairs to perform assignments. Frequently lifts and carries equipment and parts that weigh up to 70 pounds over uneven terrain.
- WORKING CONDITIONS: Work primarily outside, in dirt, dust, and mud. It is sometimes required to make repairs and installations outside in windy or cold weather. Exposed to overhead artillery firing, loud noises, and military live-fire training. May be required to enroll in lead and hearing monitoring conservation programs. Is occasionally exposed to the possibility of broken bones, electrical shock, and burns.
