What you will do:

As a Park Ranger 1 at this location you will get to do a little bit of everything, but your primary duties will include landscape maintenance, custodial maintenance, and general park operations:

Landscape Maintenance

  • Plant vegetation, mow lawns, and maintain irrigation systems
  • Prune trees and shrubs using manual and power tools, as well as apply fertilizers and pesticides

Custodial Maintenance

  • Clean rest rooms, showers, bathhouses, observation buildings, and maintenance shops
  • Collect, separate, and properly dispose of garbage and recyclable materials

General Park Operations

  • Give direction and oversee the work of seasonal employees, volunteers, and inmates
  • Maintain and ensure clean work sites, maintenance shops, yards, and storage areas

Additional Duties

  • Building, facility, and utility maintenance and construction
  • Visitor services
  • Park patrol, safety, and rule enforcement
  • Resource interpretation and conservation

What we are looking for (Desired Attributes):

  • Experience with landscape maintenance.
  • Experience working in a professional park setting.
  • Skill in rule enforcement and generating voluntary compliance.
  • Experience maintaining turf including mowing, irrigating, and trimming.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service to diverse park visitors.
  • Experience performing custodial maintenance tasks such as cleaning restrooms and facilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two years of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping)
  • OR​ an Associate’s degree or higher in Park and Recreation Administration, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Studies and 6 months of visitor services experience (e.g., rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping)

Special Requirements:

  • Have a criminal history check and driving record check that meets OPRD criteria at the time of hire and throughout employment
  • Posses a valid driver’s license at time of hire and throughout employment
  • Must wear OPRD supplied uniform and comply with appearance code while on duty
  • Ability to obtain one or more of the following within 90 days of hire:
    • First Aid/CPR Certification
