Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly motivated, independent, creative, and outgoing outreach specialist with a strong natural resources background. Both the Big Thompson Conservation District (BTCD) and the Fort Collins Conservation District (FCCD) have a strong focus on natural resource management & conservation, especially regarding forest restoration implementation. This position will work with the BTCD and FCCD board of supervisors as well as the forestry and education staff to craft engaging, informative, and inspiring outreach documents, newsletters, events, videos, web content, etc. The ideal candidate will be team-minded and excellent at public speaking. This position will independently develop and disseminate strategic messaging content.

We offer a supportive and flexible work environment, with many opportunities for this position to drive the direction of outreach campaigns and the future of the districts’ programs and success. FCCD and BTCD are seeking to consolidate into one unified Conservation District within the next year during a county-wide constituent vote, and this position will be engaged with building overall district visibility throughout the county. The districts are actively growing and looking to engage new stakeholders and create new programs based on conservation needs in our districts. We look forward to working with a new team member who is committed to assisting our organizations grow and further support the needs of our constituents and natural resources.

This position will be a shared position and will therefore report to both the FCCD and BTCD board of supervisors. Day-to-day, this position will coordinate closely with the Program Directors for both districts’ forestry programs to ensure that the messaging and goals of the districts are being met.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a natural resources or agricultural field
  • 2+ years demonstrated experience coordinating educational and outreach content and events
  • 2+ years demonstrated experience working in natural resources or agriculture
  • Ability to coordinate and collaborate with federal, state, local, private, and landowner partners.
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license or the ability to acquire one upon employment and a reliable, insured personal vehicle.
  • Ability to write effectively and efficiently on topics involving natural resources and agriculture (grant applications, reports, educational/promotional documents, press releases, etc.). Experience with grant writing and/or project proposal development preferred
  • Ability to convey ideas and scientific concepts related to natural resources to those who may or may not be familiar with such topics (politicians, general public, land managers, journalists, etc.). Able to respect and respond to a wide array of viewpoints.
  • Experience working on your own to meet team goals: managing complex projects involving multiple parties, contracts, budgets, and record keeping
  • Computing: proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, GIS, email marketing platforms, video & photo editing & layout software, website content & design, and able to learn other software platforms as necessary
  • Demonstrated experience creating video content with drones, cameras, editing software, etc. for the creation of engaging content
  • Highly organized and efficient in planning events, logistics, timelines, and documents
  • Self-motivated and self-directed; take initiative to solve problems and meet team needs
  • Flexibility to problem solve and perform a variety of duties as well as deal with unforeseen events
  • Committed to safety, quality, and professionalism
  • Discretion in maintaining confidentiality of NRCS, district, and client business and records
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends when hosting or attending events. Occasional overnight travel may be required.
  • Physical ability to hike in remote, strenuous conditions in often inclement weather. Lift up to 50 lbs.
