SUMMARY
The Outdoor Leadership department of the YMCA of Greater Seattle is seeking a motivated, organized, and flexible Operations Supervisor who shares our commitment to the outdoors, youth development, community building, and cultural humility. The Operations Supervisors primary responsibilities are to manage the day-to-day operations of the Cascade People’s Center and to oversee logistics for Outdoor Leadership programs.

BOLD (Boys Outdoor Leadership Development) & GOLD (Girls Outdoor Leadership Development) program is dedicated to inspiring courage and confidence in diverse groups of teens through outdoor adventures. Through partnership programs and summer wilderness expeditions diverse groups of youth explore the wild places of the Pacific Northwest and become the next generation of multicultural leaders. Climbing & Challenge strives to help individuals and teams reach their fullest potential, by providing shared adventure and challenge course experiences, followed by positive reflection. Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Create and manage programming to meet the vision of the Cascade People’s Center.
- Develop and foster community partnerships.
- Market, schedule, and supervise space rentals.
- Coordinate building operations, purchasing, maintenance, and improvements.
- Ensure compliance with City of Seattle lease agreement including public benefit requirements and annual reporting.
- Manage food, equipment, and transportation logistics for Outdoor Leadership programs in conjunction with Program Directors, including:
- 75+ one-to-three-week youth wilderness expeditions
- 100+ outdoor adventure program activities
- 2 youth environmental conferences
- Manage the purchasing, organization, and repair of the Outdoor Leadership gear library including outdoor clothing, backpacking, boating, snowshoeing, climbing, and mountaineering equipment.
- Hire, train, and manage a team of 3-5 seasonal logisticians who aid in the delivery of BOLD & GOLD summer programming.
- Manage expenses to meet fiscal objectives.
- Foster an inclusive environment for diverse staff, participants, and community members.
- Recruit, train and supervise volunteers in support of programming.
- Engage in Camping & Outdoor Leadership Branch and YMCA of Great Seattle initiatives.
- Other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This individual will work from the Outdoor Leadership offices at the Cascade People’s Center in the South Lake Union area of Seattle to fulfill job duties. This job operates in a both a professional office and outdoor environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This position requires the ability to lift office products and supplies, outdoor gear, and equipment up to 50 pounds.
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time position. During the summer season, June-August, this position will work a Wednesday-Sunday schedule to support BOLD & GOLD programming. September-May will require a more traditional Monday-Friday 8:30-5:00 schedule with occasional nights and weekends.
TRAVEL
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.
Qualifications
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- 21 years of age by time of employment
- Current W-EMT, WFR, WFA, or FA and CPR
- WA State Food Handlers Permit*
- One or more years of experience with staff and volunteer supervision, program development, and outdoor programming.
- One or more years of professional experience working with outdoor equipment, including repair and maintenance.
- One or more years of professional experience managing food systems for front and backcountry outdoor experiences.
- Proven track record of collaborative leadership with strong group facilitation, communication, delegation and conflict management skills.
- Able to follow processes and procedures to ensure safety, efficiency, and a positive community experience.
- Comfortable in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, with frequent mid-course corrections.
- Willing and able to work a non-traditional schedule that includes nights and weekends.
- Intermediate computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office suite.
- Ability to meet requirements to become an authorized driver of a 15-passenger minibus in urban and rural settings
- Valid drivers license and 3+ years of driving history
- Safe driving record
- Ability to pass a post-offer pre-employment drug screening which includes marijuana
* Must be obtained within 30 days after hire
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- We strongly recommend all employees within Camping & Outdoor Leadership have the following vaccinations: 1) Tdap 2) MMR 3) Varicella
- Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.).
- Ability to speak any language in addition to English.
