Job Description:

This position is currently being offered as either a Limited Duration appointment for anyone to apply OR as a statewide Job Rotation to all permanent, current State of Oregon employees (this includes regular status and limited duration employees who have completed trial service).  State of Oregon job rotations require employer approval. Position is located in La Grande at Blue Mountain Interagency Dispatch Center (BMIDC).

What will you do?  

As Operations Specialist you will provide primary operational representation for ODF within Blue Mountain Interagency Dispatch Center. You will be responsible for lead dispatch oversight/representation for initial attack and extended attack day-to-day operations and facilitate the blending of federal, state, and structural resources to achieve the best outcomes involving Fire and other all risk incidents. You will assist the Assistant Center Manager in providing direction of the Operations Section within BMIDC and ensures that the interests, policies, and programs of ODF, BLM, BIA, DNR and USFS are met. During the fire season months, you will direct seasonal dispatchers in their day to day jobs and will be eligible for lead worker compensation.  You will be responsible for coordination of initial attack resources and related activities such as record keeping, setting priorities, anticipating and analyzing interagency resource needs. This position is a lead dispatcher.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

Candidates whose demonstrate skills, abilities and/or experience in the following:

  • Two years of experience as an administrative specialist or executive support specialist which included administrative support for a project, program, or operation. Administrative support includes those duties beyond clerical/secretarial such as: interpretation of laws, rules, and regulations; administrative data collection and analysis; and evaluation of projects, processes, and operations; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience. One year of postsecondary education may be substituted for up to one year of the experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to foster a culture of service, workforce diversity, equity and inclusion, team environment, and strong internal communication and alignment.

  • Experience performing dispatching in an emergency type setting.

  • Experience providing administrative support and prioritizing projects for multiple managers.

  • Experience working as leader of a team and/or crew.

  • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Self-starter who can bring high levels of production with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to work with multiple deadlines, continual change and at times heavy workloads.

  • Ability to maintain composure during stressful and chaotic situations in a fast paced work environment.

  • Ability to respond to potentially intense situations with customers and use independent judgment to solve problems.

  • Ability to support and maintain positive relationships with multiple customers.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, or similar software.

  • Experience handling confidential information.

  • Available on short notice to work weekends, holidays, or nights depending on emergency need.
