Salary: $35,484.00 – $46,980.00 Annually
Positions with permanent duty stations in King County receive an additional 5% added to their monthly base salary. The salary listed on this announcement reflects the additional 5%.

Want to join a high functioning team that provides a critical role in ensuring the accurate dispatch and tracking of resources throughout the SPS Region? This position is essential to provide for the safety of resources while working in remote areas and while performing emergency work. They ensure the accurate and timely collection and dissemination of crucial information incident managers rely on to make timely and sensitive decisions pertaining to incident management. Additionally, this position activates emergency responses when life, property or natural resources are threatened.

Duties
Responsibilities:
This position requires a calm presence in order to deliver the highest quality of service while emergency situations develop.  Attention to detail and strong communication skills are required. The successful candidate will be trained to use technical programs which collect, analyze, distribute and communicate vital information. These specialized programs track among other things: resource availability, certifications, resource or incident locations, weather forecasting, fire indices, fire reporting and incident costs. The position will assist in completing a mobilization guide in the off season. The mobilization guide is a critical reference tool for duty officers, dispatchers, finance staff and fire managers.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications: 

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Two years clerical/administrative experience demonstrating increased responsibility.
  • Two years computer experience with the use of Microsoft Office products.

Special Requirements and Conditions of Employment:

  • Most of the work for this position takes place in an office environment.  On occasion, during incidents or training, the work may take place in an incident camp work environment.
  • Extended overtime is mandatory during initial, extended attack and all risk incident dispatch.
  • Night shifts will be required during active fire season.
  • Working conditions require this position to remain calm and effective in giving and receiving communication over the radio and telephone during high stress incidents.
  • Travel and overnight stay may be required for training.  During some training or if the employee is dispatched on a fire assignment, lodging and meals may be provided in a camp, dormitory or tent environment.
  • Must be 18 years of age at the time of hire.
  • Must live within 30 minutes of SPS Headquarters in Enumclaw.

Desired Qualifications: 

  • One successful season working as NWCG Wildland Fire Fighter 2.
  • Understands the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar. 
  • Experience using radio base stations to communicate
  • Experience helping to building a specific successful dispatch office data base for WildCad  
  • Clearly able to communicate both verbally and in writing with internal and external customers including cooperators, landowners, public, and fire crews
  • Employment experience independently and effectively managing time to meet deadlines
  • Experience as a Wildland Fire Dispatcher utilizing Incident Response Ordering Capability (IROC), WildCad, Incident Qualification System (IQS), and the Weather Information Management System (WIMS).
