Description

This position is responsible for the resource management and monitoring of Natural Lands, Trails, and Parks. This may include activities such as resource inventories, site inspections, monitoring of flora and fauna, habitat restoration, coordination with Sheriff on natural resource law enforcement, public relations, data collection and management, prescribed burning, gps/gis mapping, project management, oversight of interns and volunteers, and management plan development and implementation.

**Salary will be determined depending on qualifications of candidates who exceed the minimum requirements as outlined within the job description. 

**Additional compensation based on licensure. 

Essential Functions

Management Plans – The development, updating and implementation of both comprehensive and individual site management plans.
 
Prescribed Burn Program – Lead the planning and oversight of the Natural Lands prescribed burn program, including annual burn plan development and execution, coordination with Fire Department, Florida Forest Service and post fire monitoring.
 
Project Management – Oversight of all aspects of project management including scope development, bid process, vendor selection, contract administration and financial tracking for natural resource related projects.
 
Exotic Species Control Program – Lead the planning and oversight of the Natural Lands exotic/invasive species control program, including related surveys, annual treatment plan, coordination with staff, grant applications and execution, and post treatment monitoring.
 
Resource Management – The survey and inventory of natural resources on all Natural Land properties, to include but not be limited to listed species, exotic species, fire effects, photo points and human use.
 
Data Management – Coordination of all resource management and attendance data collected as well as subsequent annual reporting requirements to various agencies.
 
Intern/Contract Staff Program Management – Development, recruitment, training and supervision of interns, contract staff, volunteers and community services workers for exotic species control, photo points, data entry and habitat restoration efforts.
 
Mapping – Lead the creation and maintenance of all NL maps including GPS data collection and GIS development of associated charts and diagrams.
 
Attend working groups and other community meetings as a Natural Lands representative.
 
Habitat Restoration – Lead the coordination of habitat restoration projects such as roller chopping, hardwood removal, timber harvest, exotic species control and related grant applications and implementation.
 
Assist with and lead educational activities such as special programs, hikes and events as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Forestry, Resource Management or a similar field and two years’ experience in natural areas management.

A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
 

Additional Requirements

Excellent communication skills and a strong knowledge of Florida geography, ecosystems, and native flora and fauna, certification in prescribed burning, intermediate ability in GIS, Outlook and experience with GPS/GIS, 4wd vehicles, ATV, chainsaws and other field equipment preferred. Ability to work effectively with other County, municipal and State agencies and the general public. Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously. Must be in good physical condition and possess a tolerance to heat, cold, insects and have a working knowledge of field safety. 
 
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.

All employees must attend Seminole County Required Core Trainings.

Department Specific trainings per position may be required.
