-Additional years of experience and demonstrated knowledge in natural resources professional practice.   
-Demonstrated experience in classroom or informal adult education including developing, implementing, and evaluating innovative education experiences.
-Experience with developing and implementing extension and outreach programming including needs assessment, evaluation, adult education, active listening, learning from others and effective interpersonal and group communication.
-Demonstrated experience communicating with diverse audiences using many strategies including oral presentations, writing, and/or social media.
-Experience building or maintaining diverse partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.

Job Description:

Summary

Agriculture and Natural Resources Extension and Outreach at Iowa State University is seeking candidates for a Natural Resources Extension Field Specialist. The specialist will work in collaboration with the natural resources extension and outreach team with statewide responsibilities for educational program development and implementation. Responsibilities of the Field Specialist include program development and coordination to support extension education efforts in natural resources disciplines including wildlife and fisheries conservation, forest stewardship, water resource protection, and related fields. The successful candidate will initiate interdisciplinary programming that originates from a strong research foundation and engages the network of extension educators in Iowa’s 100 extension districts.  The position will develop and provide leadership for coordination and delivery of natural resources educational programs, including Iowa’s Master Conservationist Program.

The specialist will cooperate and communicate with Regional Education and Extension Directors, County Councils, County Extension personnel, other Field Specialists and campus faculty and staff.  The specialist will also work to maintain beneficial working relationships with external stakeholders in natural resources and agricultural agencies and organizations.

In addition to the responsibilities listed above, contributions to team reporting and impact measurement are expected.  This position will identify innovative ways to meet targeted undeserved and underrepresented audiences.

This position will cover the state of Iowa in programming and the position’s main office location will be based on Iowa State University’s campus in the Department of Natural Resource Ecology and Management. The Natural Resources Extension Field Specialist position will be filled at the Education Extension Specialist I or II level. The level II position has minimum required qualifications of Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related experience and is a PS807 pay level.

• Provides subject-matter support to local networks and coalitions to build community capacity (brings added value to producers, addresses environmental issues, and improves education and service for youth, community or families).
• Participates in needs assessment activities; evaluates major program efforts; and completes system reports when due.
• Sets goals related to reaching targeted under-served and under-represented audiences.
• Secures resources (volunteers, contracts, and grants) to support identified needs at a county level.
