Blue Coast Engineering (Blue Coast) is looking for mid-level engineer or scientist who is interested in joining a small engineering company focused on estuary and shoreline restoration design and coastal engineering in the Puget Sound region.

While most of the work will be completed remotely (i.e., from home), some on-site work in the Puget Sound region will be required as part of this position. Therefore, candidates for this position should live in the western Washington State area. There is also potential for the position to be in-office part- or full-time in Bellingham, WA.

About us:

Blue Coast is a small, woman-owned professional services firm specializing in coastal engineering, hydrodynamic and sediment transport modeling, shoreline and estuary restoration, and shoreline protection. Our team is based in Lake Forest Park, Washington with a second location in Bellingham, Washington.

We are committed to bringing together technical excellence with an empowered team to provide the highest level of client service. More information about our company can be found on our website at www.gobluecoast.com.

We offer:

  • Competitive salaries
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Retirement fund matching
  • Remote work/telecommuting

About you:

We are looking for someone who has 5 to 8 years’ experience conducting the following types of work in a consulting environment:

  • Analyses of coastal and estuarine processes (i.e., tidal and river hydraulics, waves, sediment transport)
  • Design of shoreline and/or estuarine restoration projects
  • Design of shoreline stabilization and wave protection projects
  • Evaluation of coastal resiliency for waterfront infrastructure
  • At least a Bachelors Degree in coastal engineering, oceanography, or related field

Because much of our work is done remotely from home, you will need to be an independent and self-motivated individual. But, because much of our work is collaborative either with each other, our consulting teaming partners, or our clients, you will also need to be able to work in teams and be a good communicator.

Additional qualifications or experience that would make you a standout candidate for this position include some of the following:

  • Civil 3D (AutoCAD)
  • Construction oversight for in-water projects
  • Construction stormwater BMPs
  • Field data collection and post-processing of water levels, currents, waves, stream flow and turbidity
  • Experience analyzing data or conducting engineering calculations with MATLAB or Python
  • Hydrodynamic and wave numerical modeling
  • Evaluation of propeller wash and/or vessel wake hydrodynamics
  • Coastal geomorphology expertise in the Puget Sound region or in mixed gravel-sand environments.
  • Development of construction documents (technical specifications and construction cost estimates)
  • Experience conducting analyses in ArcGIS or GlobalMapper
  • Masters Degree coastal engineering, oceanography, or related field
