Summary

This position is located in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Ocean Service (NOS), Office of National Marine Sanctuaries (ONMS), West Coast Region, Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary with one vacancy in Port Angeles, WA.

Responsibilities

As a Marine Scientist, you will perform the following duties:

  • Assist in marine sanctuary research by participating in at-sea and coastal fieldwork related to oceanographic monitoring, biological sampling and surveys from land, small boats, and large research vessels, and summarizing data, and participating in wildlife surveys. Assist with assessing climate impacts in the sanctuary and the relationship between living marine resources and the physical and chemical aspects of marine ecosystems.
  • Assist with research data collection and management. Manage data and creation of meta-data for biological and oceanographic data streams and ensure compliance with agency data management provisions and archiving requirements. Draft research project activity summaries and updates to ensure compliance with relevant permit reporting requirements and documenting efforts. Assist in the development of condition reports, management plans, and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents.
  • Assist in the preparation of data visualizations (maps and figures) and develop summaries as needed for public outreach and education purposes, including: presentations; website resources; feature stories and story maps; and other public-facing venues.
