This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time, permanent Maintenance Mechanic 1 position for Cama Beach State Park located in Island County, WA.

Duties

Under the general supervision of the Construction & Maintenance Supervisor this position installs, repairs, inspects, maintains physical facilities (i.e. buildings, facilities, and grounds), and maintains and repairs machinery and equipment within the Salish Foothills Area.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Perform general work in maintenance, repair, and alteration in the construction and maintenance of Area facilities and grounds and the maintenance of vehicles equipment.
  • Preventative maintenance to park buildings and other park facilities.
  • Surface preparation and painting of interior and exterior of buildings, roadways, and gates.
  • Perform cleaning and maintenance of building drainage systems and rainwater drainage systems.
  • Minor grounds and facilities maintenance including mowing, trimming, cleaning, and upkeep.
  • Assist the other C&M in the Salish Foothills Area with projects.
  • Coordinate with management, other employees, and volunteers during park improvement projects.
  • May lead and coordinate in minor construction and repair work, troubleshooting, inspecting, and monitoring the area infrastructure and equipment.
  • Maintain health and safety stands.
Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Two (2) years of general work experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction, or repair work.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid (unrestricted except for corrective lenses) driver’s license.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working for Washington State Parks or similar parks and recreation entity.
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office Products, such as Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Experience in driving assorted vehicles, tractors, mowers, dump trucks & trailers, backhoes, stump grinders, brush clippers, brush hog, and bucket truck.
  • Experience working with various hand & power tools (wrench, pliers, grease gun, torque wrench), Power tools (circular saw, table saw, drill, grinder, sander) and voice radios.

UNIFORM INFORMATION:
All Maintenance Mechanic 1 employees are required to wear a uniform. A complete and properly worn uniform helps establish the professional identity of a Maintenance Mechanic and promotes respect as a Washington State Parks employee. All Maintenance Mechanic 1s will receive 6 shirts within the first year (2 shirts per calendar year after the first year), 1 jacket every 3 years, 1 baseball cap every year, 1 safety vest every 3 years, and a clothing stipend of $200 per year, and  $250 boot stipend every 2 years. Uniform stipends are intended to offset the cost of clothing worn in the workplace such as pants, boots, raingear, etc.
