Hiring For: Levee Project Manager

The City of Tukwila is embarking on a 20-year project to reconstruct the Tukwila 205 Levee to provide 500-year level of flood protection and obtain levee certification. The project is estimated to cost $200 million and will require securing funding from other agencies and successfully navigating their processes and requirements. Ultimately, the project will reduce the potential for catastrophic flooding emergencies and provide the necessary FEMA certification that influences future prosperity in the community.

The City has found that approximately 80% of the levee could not be certified in its current condition and will require repair or reconstruction. The City and the King County Flood Control District are ready to begin the design. The design and construction will take approximately 15 to 20 years to complete and will require extensive work with the City of Tukwila and property owners. We are looking for an individual who has the right blend of political acumen, communication skills and project management skills, and is also comfortable with technical details. Our ideal candidate will be able to see the big picture, develop a plan and execute in a steadfast way.

This role will be responsible for the day-to-day project management, the budget, long-range planning, communication with stakeholders, policy and procedure development, and selection and oversight of contractors.
