Schedule and Salary: Office hours are 8AM-5PM with available hybrid/flexible shift. The annual salary range of compensation for this position is dependent upon qualifications, although the expected hiring salary will typically be less than the top of the range, to allow movement for growth and development.

You will support the agency mission by performing a variety of tasks and working directly with different audiences which include other agencies, legislative staff, and the public. You will build your professional skills and learn more about the legislative process and how policies are developed and implemented. What you will be doing:
This position supports PLIA’s Legislative & Policy Manager and provides specialized support to the agency mission by helping with the implementation of legislative and policy directives, preparing and reviewing agency reports and documents, and performing a variety of high-level administrative duties to support the executive management team and the Policy Unit.

Some of what you’ll be doing includes:

  • Perform various administrative tasks to support the Legislative & Policy Manager.
  • Draft, proofread, and edit correspondence and other documents.
  • Assist in executive meeting preparation by reserving meeting space, preparing agendas, taking and composing notes and maintaining recurring meeting files.
  • Assist unit staff with administrative tasks.
  • Provide support to the Administrative Services Unit, assisting in a variety of specialized assignments and/or projects.
  • Support administrative functions for the agency as backup. 
  • Special projects and/or tasks outside the normal course of duties. 

Qualifications

REQUIRED:
One year of experience as an Administrative Assistant 1.

OR

A bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration or closely allied field
AND
Two years of office experience at the senior clerical level or higher.

**Equivalent education may substitute for experience requirements on a year-for-year basis.

AND

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and exhibit professional and ethical behavior at all times.
  • Knowledge of proper grammatical construction, sentence and paragraph development, and basic mathematics.
  • Strong professional communication skills both written and oral.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Aptitude for proofreading and editing written documents.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team setting and the ability to change priorities quickly.
  • Knowledge of basic administrative procedures, office practices, and correspondence preparation. 
  • Experience operating general office equipment.
  • Expertise with software such as the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) to create, format, edit, preview, print and save documents. 
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in order to support a respectful, safe and supportive work environment.

PREFERRED:

  • Experience with editing documents such as checking for grammar, punctuation, and Plain Talk guidelines.
  • Knowledge of the legislative process.
