Wa-Ya Instructors deliver curriculum centered around STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math), in combination with indigenous practices and arts, outdoor adventure, and environmental stewardship. Instructors engage in a culturally integrated environment, where Wa-Ya’s values of respect, diversity, equity, and inclusion are practiced. Logistical direction provided by engaged Board members. Camp is limited to 14 children between the ages of 6-13 years old, with a 7:1 student: teacher ratio. Instructors are expected to be available to work 8:30am – 5:00pm (variable), Monday – Friday and attend orientation June 23-25th.

The Lead Instructor ($17/hour) will be expected to develop curriculum and teach lessons that achieve Wa-Ya’s learning objectives related to basic mathematics, engineering, and how to use simple technologies , specifically in how they relate to natural resource sciences. Additionally, the Lead Instructor will help campers gain an understanding of, and confidence in outdoor and creative wellness pursuits such as hiking, kayaking, rock climbing, yoga, and art projects. This position is responsible for assisting in the overall management of summer camp operations and the logistics that are necessary for the support and delivery of science & adventure-based activities.

Certifications: Valid First Aid/CPR certification and Drivers License required; Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder preferred.

The Assistant Instructor ($15/hour) will support the Lead Instructor in the delivery of lessons and will assist in the overall management of summer camp operations and the logistics that are necessary for the support and delivery of science & adventure-based activities. The Assistant Instructor will provide instructional support in outdoor pursuits such as hiking, kayaking, rock climbing, survival, yoga, and art projects and should be comfortable to drive the Wa-Ya vans (12- and 15-passenger) to teaching sites.

Certifications: Valid First Aid/CPR certification and Drivers License required; Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder preferred.

The On-call/Support Instructor ($14-16 per hour depending on experience, variable hours, average 5-10 hours per week) will support the Lead and/or Assistant Instructor in the delivery of lessons centered around STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) curriculum, in combination with indigenous practices and arts, outdoor adventure, and environmental stewardship. They will assist in the overall management of summer camp operations and the logistics that are necessary for the support and delivery of science & adventure-based activities. Primary responsilbities are logistics based, and will serve as a substitute instructor when needed to deliver pre-planned curriculum.

Certifications: Valid First Aid/CPR certification and Drivers License required; Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder preferred.
