SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the PI, the Lab Assistant III will support the laboratory research requirements of the lab, including work on the Los Angeles Genomics Project, a regional multispecies landscape genomics project examining population structure and gene flow across the Los Angeles region; and other lab projects utilizing next generation sequencing approaches in non-model organisms. The position involves processing tissue and DNA extracts for next-generation sequencing (RADseq and WGS) in a high-throughput research setting. Previous experience in a molecular biology laboratory is required, and previous experience with next-generation library preparation protocols is required. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to work with some supervision on large-scale projects that require attention to detail and molecular skills. The Lab Assistant will also be responsible for some general lab management, including equipment maintenance and supply stock ordering.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrated experience in basic molecular biology benchwork.
- Experience in DNA isolation, quantitation, whole genome, reduced representation (RADseq), or similar DNA sequencing library prep.
- Experience working with non-model organisms.
- Competence in common computer programs (e.g., Microsoft Office, or other word processing and spreadsheet programs).
- Demonstrated excellence in organization, attention to detail, and keeping thorough and up-to-date records.
- Ability to manage several tasks, keeping all on track and organized.
- Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships in the laboratory.
- Effective communication skills (verbal and written).
- Ability to follow and enforce laboratory safety guidelines.
