Position Summary

The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is seeking an innovative restoration technician to join our dynamic team of scientists in the Wyoming chapter. Wyoming is home to some of the most intact and undisturbed lands in the country, with abundant wildlife, clean air, and expansive vistas; yet a variety of forms of development and a changing climate threaten the ecosystems of Wyoming and the West. We seek an innovative restoration technician to join us in finding innovative solutions to the threats at hand. The successful candidate will: assist TNC scientists with designing, installing and monitoring field and lab experiments; assist TNC scientists with establishing protocols to break dormancy in high priority restoration forb species; work with a multi-state team to test new seed technologies aimed at overcoming barriers to establishment; assist with data analysis and reporting. The innovative restoration technician will join a team people from across TNC’s Sagebrush Sea offices who are working together to improve native plant restoration.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in natural resources, biology, environmental studies or equivalent combination of education and 6 months’ experience.
  • Experience managing and prioritizing tasks from multiple sources.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Field experience conducting research activities in sagebrush ecosystems, and knowledge of common plant species.
  • Experience working with seeds and plants in an outdoor, lab or greenhouse setting.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise independent judgment.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Ability to identify plant species using diagnostic tools such as a dichotomous key.
  • Ability to follow safety protocols for using small machinery, hand tools, and power tools in field and lab/shop environment.
  • Ability to work effectively on a small team.
  • Demonstrated ability to safely travel on primitive roads and trails.
  • Multi-language skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience an asset.
  • Time management skills.
  • Strong ethic of teamwork, communication, collaboration and accountability.
