Salary-  $4,627.00 – $6,063.00 Monthly

Duties Include

  • Prioritizing illness investigations and ensuring shellfish related illnesses are properly logged, traced and filed in an accurate and timely manner. 
  • Developing appropriate reports summarizing issues and events surrounding illnesses. 
  • Building relationships and coordinating illness investigations with local health jurisdictions; communicable disease epidemiology staff; biotoxin, food, and staff in OEHS; shellfish industry and tribes; and other State Shellfish Authorities and health departments.
  • Conducting investigations of shellfish related illnesses in coordination with the Shellfish Inspection Program. 
  • Collecting harvest information and records for shellfish associated illnesses.
  • Supporting the Vibrio parahaemolyticus (Vp) Advisory Committee in the biannual review of the Vibrio Control Plan (WAC 246-282-006).
  • Evaluating activities and trends based on previous sampling results and Vibrio illness data to develop a sampling plan for each upcoming Vibrio control season.

Required Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in public health, environmental health or closely allied science with a minimum of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours in natural or physical science.
  • Two (2) or more years professional experience in environmental public health and/or environmental health principles.
  • One (1) or more years of experience with interpretation and application of public health requirements and procedures relating to food safety, inspections, environmental science, or marine aquaculture.
  • Demonstrated experience evaluating public health issues and making corrective action recommendations. 

Desired Qualifications 

  • A Master’s degree or higher in public health, environmental health, civil or environmental engineering, or a closely allied field.
  • Three (3) or more years of professional experience in public environmental health and/or environmental quality protection.
  • Knowledge of Federal and State laws and State Board of Health regulations relating to environmental health and sanitation.

  • Participate in emergency response activities and when the Agency Coordination Center is activated.  
  • The duty station for this position is in Tumwater, WA. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, telework (mobile-work) is currently expected. When approved to return, the incumbent is expected to report to the duty station for work activities. Partial telecommuting may be an option subject to supervisory approval.
