This is a full-time, two-year project position that may be extended.
The work shift is between 8am-5pm weekdays with Telework options and flexibility.

We invite you to apply for the position of Hydrogeologist 3 where you will support the agency mission by performing oversight and consultation on technically complex petroleum contaminated cleanup projects relating to the agency’s underground storage tank (UST) and heating oil programs. You will engage with owners and operators of USTs and heating oil tanks to help them follow applicable state regulations and standards.

Duties

 

Some of what you’ll do:

  • Review and analyze proposed cleanup action plans, highlighting any areas of deficiency or concern.
  • Analyze final cleanup action reports and exercise independent decision-making authority to prepare written opinions regarding project completion.
  • Notify site owners of further steps necessary to move projects toward closure.
  • Perform site visits to observe projects in progress and ensure appropriate environmental cleanup practices are employed.
  • Meet with consultants, owners, third party administrators, and other stakeholders to resolve concerns/issues and promote good communication.
  • Maintain project records, databases, and tracking systems.
  • Review agency-generated opinion letters for technical and administrative consistency.

Qualifications

REQUIRED:
You must possess a valid Washington State Licensed Hydrologist specialty license
AND
A Bachelor’s degree involving major study in hydrogeology, hydrology, geology, or closely allied field AND 
Three years professional level experience in as a hydrogeologist, hydrologist, geology or closely allied profession

* Additional qualifying experience will substitute, year for year, for education.  

OR
One year as a Hydrogeologist 2.

NOTE:

  • A Master’s degree with major study in hydrogeology, hydrology, geology, or closely allied field will substitute for two years of experience.  
  • A PhD degree will substitute for three years of experience if major research was in hydrogeology, hydrology, geology, or closely allied field.
