Salary- $152-$225 per day

Wildland Trekking is seeking guides to facilitate day hike, multi day backpack, base camp, lodge based trips to start summer 2022 in the Pacific Northwest.  Operating Areas include: Olympic National Park, North Cascades National Park, and Mount Rainier National Park.

Pay: guide pay varies by state. Wildland pays by the hour in accordance with all state and overtime laws. Entry Level guide pay ranges from $152-$225 per day not including gratuities which can make up a significant part of overall compensation. We are happy to discuss this in more detail with anyone who is selected for an interview.

Qualifications: Must have significant personal and professional multi-day guiding experience in the backcountry. Multi-day trips range from 3-7 days. Mileage ranges from 5-12 per day. Guides prepare 3 meals a day for guests in the field, teaching outdoor living skills, manage all aspects of the trip, and are responsible for interpretive information, risk management, and guest satisfaction.

Required Skills:

  • Efficient and effective organizational skills, strong work ethic, excellent written and verbal communication and able to hike heavy loads 5-12 miles per day over varying terrain. Guides walk all day in beautiful locations carrying a heavy backpack, cook in the backcountry, manage risk in varied environments and weather, provide excellent customer service, interpretive information, and manage social dynamics in mixed groups.
  • Must be available to attend staff training: June 3-8th, 2022
  • Must be able to pass a background, and motor vehicle record check.
  • Must be able to obtain backcountry food handlers certification.
  • Must provide proof of Covid-19 vaccination, be willing to get a Covid-19 vaccination before start of employment, or qualify for a religious or medical exemption.
  • Must hold a current WFR certification or EMT or be willing to obtain before training start date

Preferred Skills:

  • Training and professional experience in guiding and/or outdoor education (i.e. NOLS, Outward Bound, degree in Outdoor Education or related field, Wilderness Therapy, other Adventure Travel companies, etc).
  • Area and interpretive knowledge is a HUGE plus
  • Leave No Trace certification.
  • Expertise in at least one of our program locations.
  • Speak and write English fluently. Fluent in French and/or German, Spanish, Mandarin, Japanese a plus.
  • Two years of commercial driving experience (any job where you had to at least occasionally transport passengers).
