About the Job

Global to Local (G2L) is hiring a Healthy Communities Organizer (HCO) to join our fun, dedicated, and dynamic team. Reporting to the Executive Director, this position is responsible for informing and executing G2L’s policy and systems change work to create healthy communities in South King County. The HCO builds relationships with other community based organizations and organizes and provides support to coalitions to ensure that our shared goals for healthy communities are advanced in coordinated and effective ways.

This job is all about building networks and managing collaborative relationships. The HCO is also G2L’s point person on local government dynamics and community issues, and helps set the organization’s policy positions. The ideal candidate will be a skilled communicator, have a demonstrated commitment to health and racial equity, and thrive in a highly collaborative environment.

What You’ll Do

  • Working closely with the Executive Director, assist in developing projects and work plans that center the priorities, solutions, and empowerment of those most impacted by the issues being addressed. 
  • Stay informed on community issues, priorities and capacities of partners, and local government dynamics. Reliably and frequently share knowledge, make reports, and offer feedback to ensure successful coordination and implementation of projects and programs.
  • Expand G2L’s presence through a collective strategy for outreach, education, and relationship building that engages communities heavily impacted yet underrepresented among G2L’s existing partnerships and coalitions.
  • Build and maintain authentic relationships across efforts for racial, economic, and health equity in South King County. 
  • Build strong coalitions that build and exercise power together through collective action. Ground coalitions and partners in shared values, vision for success, goals, and strategies.
  • Develop and implement a shared leadership model that focuses on those most impacted to sustain our coalitions for long-term success.
  • Provide support and technical assistance to coalition partners to empower them to engage community members in projects such as participating in issues education events, contacting elected officials, and testifying at public meetings.
  • Organize and facilitate effective meetings and workshops to bring coalition groups to decisions.

Who We’re Looking For

  • Deep understanding of social determinants of health and equity, and a deep commitment to fighting racism and other forms of oppression.
  • 2+ years of coalition building experience, especially experience supporting individual organizations to succeed in shared decision making and taking collective action. Ability to act with diplomacy, instill trust, empower others, and manage conflict.
  • Familiarity with power analysis and equity frameworks, and the ability to lead within such frameworks.
  • Experience building the political analysis of marginalized groups and engaging them on issues that impact them.
  • Ability to express a vision for healthy communities and communicate that vision in a way that moves people and partners to action.
  • The following qualifications are desired but not required: experience working with immigrant/refugee communities; familiarity with South King County communities; proficiency in any foreign language commonly spoken in South King County. 

Compensation & Benefits

This is a full-time, exempt position with an salary range of $55,000 to $65,000. Global to Local has some great benefits, including:

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel; and talk and hear. This job is rated for Light work, requiring the ability to lift or move up to 20 lbs. on occasion. Close visual acuity to perform activities such as reading and viewing a computer terminal are required. This position requires occasional travel in the SeaTac/Tukwila area and may require the use of a personal vehicle.

All G2L staff are currently working from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with the option to work in the office as needed on a limited basis.
