Salary– $6,672.00 – $8,755.00 Monthly

Our Hatchery Data Coordinator,

  • Uses PostgresSQL / SQL Server to develop and modify cloud-based databases and ancillary components.
  • Uses Javascript frameworks including but not limited to Angular 6+, Node, Express, and Sequelize to develop and maintain the Hatchery web application.
  • Uses standard build tools to bundle, minify, and transpile code to be compatible with browsers that have a relevant usage share.
  • Builds and maintains services and handlers for upserting new and updated records received from mobile applications and web servers.
  • Writes industry and program standard code using principles of reusability, extensibility, and testability.
  • Collects, reviews, and analyzes hatchery data (FishBooks, Plants, Tickets, Adults) for accuracy and completeness.
  • Assists in loading data into enterprise databases following agency data standards.
  • Routinely checks data for quality control.  Tracks down missing information.
  • Maintains records that are organized, accessible, and accurate.
  • Works to improve and streamline data capture through mobile application development.
  • Provides customer support to all user groups including hatchery data unit team members, hatchery workers, agency, and fisheries entities.  Promptly answers phone calls and messages, e-mail, and correspondence.
  • Provides training to field staff.
  • Works to promote “ownership” of work products with key staff and other entities.
  • Performs shared duties of hatchery data unit; management of e-mails, hatchery form development, weekly reporting of ‘catchables’ and hatchery escapement, updates hatchery maps and desk reference manual, attends meetings.
  • Develops custom data extractions, reports and Extract Transform Load (ETL) routines.
  • Develops database artifacts to support WDFW Hatchery Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) project.
  • Provides assistance and information sharing to Fish Program staff and projects.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work Setting, including hazards:
    • Duties are performed primarily in an office setting and requires extensive computer use.
    • This position also requires the ability to work with remote facility and field-based users to accurately identify hardware, software, and workflow needs. As such, occasional work in field settings (hatcheries, remote terrestrial and aquatic field settings, vessels, and aircraft) is required.
  • Schedule:
    • Duties are typically performed in an office setting from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday.
    • A varied schedule may be required including working Saturday or Sunday and overtime during peak periods, system implementations, maintenance, and outages.
  • Travel Requirements:
    • Some travel is required throughout the State to build and support software and hardware solutions for hatchery and field staff.
    • Occasional travel throughout the US and Canada to attend training, meetings, and conferences is also required.
  • Tools and Equipment:
    • Computer hardware and software; multi-line telephones; various mobile devices and connected hardware.
  • Customer Interactions:
    • Customer service and customer interaction is integral to department success.
    • This position interacts with internal and external customers, tribal co-managers, and regional partners.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Closely related qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-by-year basis.

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited college or university with major coursework in Computer Science or Information Technology or a related field.

And

  • Four (4) years of demonstrable database development experience that reflects experience in the following areas:
    • Consulting.
    • Business and systems analysis.
    • Designing.
    • Programming (traditional/APaaS platforms).
    • Directing projects.
    • Providing customer or technical support in information technology.

License:

  • Valid driver’s license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

Experience with/in:

  • Deploying databases into AWS / cloud environments while demonstrating compliance with OCIO policy 141.10.
  • Deploying, updating, patching, and managing Linux servers in the AWS environment.
  • Configuration and maintenance of web application firewalls and network access control layers, maintaining program compliance with OCIO policy 141.10.
  • Distributed source control solutions such as Git.
  • Modern JavaScript application development frameworks such as Angular 2+/nodejs/React.

Knowledge of:

  • Principals and concepts of business process and database design; relational and distributed database (SQL) technology; networks and communications; and project management.
  • AWS technology.
  • Software development methodologies and life cycles.
  • Current trends in information technology software, business systems, hardware, networks, and communications.
  • Commonly used programming languages, tools, databases, and operating systems on multiple hardware platforms, specifically including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JSON, web services, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, NoSQL, Angular 6+, NodeJS, ExpressJS, Python.
  • Commercially available software, and application evaluation techniques. 
  • Applications development and structured analysis methods; data normalization and methods; disaster planning and recovery techniques; debugging and error detection.

Skilled in:

  • Developing data systems in variety of complex programming languages, databases and operating systems on multiple hardware platforms, specifically including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JSON, web services, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, NoSQL, Angular 6+, NodeJS, ExpressJS.
  • Working with distributed version control, specifically Git.
  • Appropriate use of relational and distributed database technology (SQL). 
  • Use of design and testing tools and methodologies.
