The Puget Sound Team Contracting and Communications Support position will provide contracting, communications, and logistics support to three grant and restoration implementation programs advancing Puget Sound recovery:  the Habitat Strategic Initiative Lead (HSIL), Estuary and Salmon Restoration Program (ESRP, including Shore Friendly),and Puget Sound Nearshore Ecosystem Restoration Program (PSNERP).  This work makes lasting contributions to the department’s goal to Conserve and protect native fish and wildlife and the associated Habitat Program objectives (Habitat exists in sufficient quantity and quality to achieve fish and wildlife conservation, recovery and harvest goals; Habitat ecosystem functions necessary for fish and wildlife survival and recovery are protected and restored; and Habitat connectivity is maintained and restored).  
KEY DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Contracting and Grant Reporting Support

  • Ensure grant contract records organized, complete, and finalized for record retention.
  • Review and synthesize reporting summaries to develop metrics of grant program accomplishments.
  • As needed, support Habitat SI Analyst and ERSP Friendly contract administration.
  • Synthesize metrics from investments to support communication of program success.
  • Manage federal grants and budget tracking.
  • Manage contract deliverables and invoicing.
  • Support completion of USACE quarterly cost-share crediting submittals.

Communications

  • Support Habitat SI Technical Co-Lead in advancing communication of grant deliverables via the Strategic Initiative Lead website.
  • Work with Habitat SI staff and Budget Analyst to submit relevant deliverables as publications to Washington State Library and develop repositories for other deliverables as needed.
  • Maintain and update project and program web communications.

Logistics Support

  • Support staff in event planning (meetings, workshops, other events) and logistics.
  • Notetaker for key meetings, including due out tracking.

Other duties as assigned

  • As needed and directed by supervisor.

Working Conditions

Work Setting, including hazards:  

  • Work is performed in an office setting, in an environment with frequent phone and email interruptions.
  • Teleworking options are available.

Schedule: 

  • Monday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Travel Requirements: 

  • Little travel anticipated. Only for occasional meetings.

License/Certifications:   

  • A valid unrestricted driver’s license.

Tool Use Requirements: 

  • Computers, cell phones, highway vehicles, videoconferencing, and standard office equipment.

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the State of Washington, Department of Fish & Wildlife, and the Washington Association of Fish and Wildlife Professionals (WAFWP).

Qualifications

Required Qualifications  

  • A Bachelor’s degree or above with major with major emphasis in natural resources (including ecology, biology, fish and wildlife management, environment or natural resource planning, environmental science, environmental engineering), communications, business, accounting, environmental law, public administration, or closely related field.

OR

  • Professional equivalent experience may substitute, year for year, for education requirement.

Competencies:    
Verbal and Written Communications

  • Effectively conveys ideas and information using spoken language and written language that is appropriate to both the complexity of the topic and the knowledge and understanding of the audience/reader.
  • Ability to synthesize some technical information into summarized communication products that is crafted for target audiences or agency staff and management.

Personal/interpersonal skills: 

  • Ability to take interest in and understand others’ perspectives; easily recognize when others have important information, perspectives, or ideas; demonstrate appropriate assertiveness; and be committed to the service of the public, mission and team.
  • Demonstrated organization and time management skills to effectively prioritize workload and maximize efficiency.
  • Ability to manage and track multiple assignments and activities in order to advance tasks according to priority and timeliness while communicating current progress, barriers, and highlights.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and track information with attention to detail.
  • Basic use of Microsoft Office programs (including Word, Excel, and Powerpoint) and Adobe Professional.
  • Washington Driver’s License.

Preferred Experience

  • Three years of professional experience in land use, environmental or natural resource management or planning.
  • Budget tracking and management.
  • Experience or academic knowledge of ecology, biology, fish and wildlife management, environmental or natural resource planning, environmental science, environmental engineering, and use or environmental law, public administration with an environmental emphasis, business, or closely related field.
  • Experience working with or for aquatic restoration programs or projects, particularly nearshore and/or estuary restoration, and the Puget Sound restoration community.
  • Experience with basic website design applications.
