Location: The Snow Leopard Trust is headquartered in Seattle, Washington. This could be a remote position if the selected candidate is flexible to work across time-zones and during non-conventional work hours, given that SLT is an international organization and our staff are distributed across time-zones worldwide.

Background

The Snow Leopard Trust (www.snowleopard.org) is the oldest and largest organization focused on the conservation of snow leopards and their high mountain ecosystems. Out of our headquarters in Seattle, we currently partner with and support field teams in five countries: Mongolia, China, India, Pakistan, and Kyrgyzstan. We also collaborate with governments of all 12 snow leopard range countries via the Global Snow Leopard and Ecosystem Protection Program (GSLEP) (www.globalsnowleopard.org).

The Snow Leopard Trust operates under a $2+ million-dollar annual budget, of which roughly 30% of funding comes from grants, both private and public. At any time, the Snow Leopard Trust can receive funds directly or in partnership from entities including (but not limited to) private foundations, zoos, government departments such as USAID and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and multilateral agencies such as various arms of the United Nations.

Key Responsibilities

The Grant Writer’s key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Researching and identifying new grant opportunities, both public and private;
  • Preparing relevant grant proposals and applications;
  • Communicating with funding agencies; and
  • Manage reporting schedule while developing and submitting reports in a timely manner.

Overview Of Position

Proposal Research and Writing (50%)

  • Research and analyze funding agencies to identify possible funding sources for specific aspects of work. Establish and maintain contact with funding agencies/ donors as appropriate.
  • Through discussion with the Development Director, Grants Manager, Finance team and other relevant staff develop budgets for grant proposals.
  • Work with Grants Manager to gather information necessary to report expenditure to funding agencies.
  • Be responsible for writing proposals for both unrestricted operating revenue and restricted projects and for submitting timely and accurate reports for all existing grant funded projects.

Reporting and Administration (30%)

  • Maintain grant tracking sheet via SmartSheet of funding agencies/new opportunities and related timelines.
  • Maintain calendar for application and report deadlines, sending periodic reminders to relevant staff for specific inputs required to complete proposals and reports.
  • Compile, write, and edit strong and compelling grant applications and reports.

Communications (15%)

  • Gather information on current programs through discussions with lead Grant Writer and relevant team members, review annual plans and reports to identify new opportunities for developing grant proposals.
  • Work with executive leadership to maintain and update as needed prospecting guidelines and gift policy.
  • Work with relevant staff to provide input for all written institutional materials (including annual reports, newsletters, and other resources.

Special Projects (5%)

  • Assist with fundraising projects as requested.

Qualifications

  • Three years relevant experience with proven track record of grant writing and reporting. Samples of past work will be requested.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and G Suite (Gmail and Google Docs).
  • Familiarity with SmartSheet a plus.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Established skills in project management and administration.
  • Commitment to the Snow Leopard Trust mission and goals.
  • Experience with non-profit or mission-based organization preferred; passion for conservation preferred.
  • Must be willing to complete a criminal background check.

  • Ability and willingness to work at odd hours as needed to meet remotely with internationally-based staff distributed across time zones.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position is primarily a stationary position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate and exchange information. This position will require participation in online meetings beyond regular office hours.

Please note staff are currently working remotely and will continue to do so through June 2021 and likely beyond, due to COVID-19. This role may require some in-person training during onboarding, as well as some time at our Wallingford location to fulfill some of the above responsibilities. When staff return to normal operations, this job may require some in-office presence, during regular business hours.

Hiring Range: The starting salary range for this position is $42K – $46K DOE, + benefits, including group health, dental, vision, retirement, generous paid leave, and more.
