Job Description:

What will you do?
As the GNA Crew Lead, you will perform a wide variety of manual tasks in the areas of fuels reduction and timber stand improvements through thinning, piling and burning of fuels. You will function as a team leader of a five person crew located in the John Day Unit. You and your crew will work to achieve the goals and objectives given to you by the Federal Forest Restoration Coordinator.
You and your crew will perform duties to accomplish additive work on USFS National Forest projects under the Good Neighbor Authority agreement. As a cooperatively funded position with the Malheur National Forest you will assist the Malheur National Forest in accomplishing their management goals including but not limited to timber sale planning, pre-commercial thinning, piling, assisting with prescribed burning, both piles and broadcast, and brushing roads. In addition, you will perform fire suppression duties as needed.
You will be expected to have or be able to acquire FFT1 or higher ICS fire qualification(s) upon hire, successfully complete ICS S-212, and be able to perform firefighting duties as needed.
Supervision is done by the Central Oregon District Federal Forest Restoration Coordinator (FFR).

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
Candidates whose demonstrate skills, abilities and/or experience in the following:

A Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Forest Management or related field; OR
-
Three years of experience in Forestry, Forest Management or related field.
-
Experience with reading and interpreting maps.
-
Knowledge and experience with timber cruising and basic forestry related skills (use of clinometer and GPS).

Qualified as Firefighter (FFT1) or higher.

Experience using chainsaws to limb and fall standing trees.

Qualified as faller (FAL3) or higher.

Experience reading, interpreting, and implementing forestry prescriptions.

Demonstrated ability to foster a culture of service, workforce diversity, equity and inclusion, team environment, and strong internal communication and alignment.

Proven experience as an excellent communicator who is honest, fair and inclusive among employees, partners and stakeholders.

The salary listed is the non-PERS qualifying salary range. If the successful candidate is PERS qualifying, the salary range will reflect the additional 6.95%
