Salary- $52,776.00 – $70,956.00 Annually

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as an applied subject matter and GIS support expert for the DNR Wildland Fire Management Division’s datasets, data collection efforts, statistical reports and GIS and other mapping applications throughout the State.
  • Support the programmatic/automated GIS-based Wildland Fire Assessment county parcel review process.
  • Support the Wildland Fire Management Division’s policy group with cartographic analyses and visual displays for reports and task force workgroup requests.

Required Qualifications: 

  • A bachelor’s degree in cartography, geography, photogrammetry, geographic information systems, computer sciences, remote sensing, land survey, civil engineering, natural resources or closely related field that includes at least one course in cartography and one course in computer sciences or geographic information systems.
    OR One college level course in cartography and one college level course in either computer sciences or geographic information systems AND any combination of four years of: 1) related undergraduate college education and 2) full-time experience in technical cartographic or geographic information systems production will substitute for the Bachelor’s degree. 
  • One year of professional cartographic or geographic information systems production experience.
    OR A Master’s degree with major study in cartography will substitute for the required experience.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, communication (verbal and writing), and customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of: principles of cartography; map projections; national map standards and/or special map standards established by the Federal Highway Administration; reproduction methods; reference and source materials.
  • Ability to: estimate costs; use tools and instruments required in map drafting, lettering and scribing; choose and use reference and source material; select supplies.

Desired Qualifications:

  • General understanding of server administration, remote desktop management, and web application deployment/architecture.
  • Experience working with, managing, and/or analyzing parcel GIS data.
  • Experience working with financial datasets in a GIS setting.
  • Knowledge of the Forest Fire Protection Assessment and/or DNR wildland fire management principles (e.g. Incident Command System, jurisdictional boundaries, and agency administration.
