Position Summary

As a seasoned GIS professional with deep subject matter expertise in data management and best practices for enterprise geodatabases, you will have the opportunity to support critical security enhancements, disaster recovery planning and testing, future integrations with departmental business systems and future BIM support for Infor’s Enterprise Asset Management system within Esri spatial databases.
You will be responsible for the projects, performance, and professional development of 3-4 data developers/administrators on this team. As a senior-level database administrator you will ensure reliable performance of the enterprise SQL/SDE databases, help integrate GIS data into existing and new business systems, and design new complex geodatabases to support emerging county departmental functions.

How to be Successful in the Role: We are looking for someone who can quickly develop a deep familiarity with the current GIS database architecture, integrations, and services, and is essentially an expert in SQL Server 2019, Esri Spatial Database Engine (SDE), SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), TSQL, Python 3.x, Esri ArcPy, Esri ArcGIS Online, ArcMap, ArcCatalog, ArcGISPro, JSON and xml.
Outside of your proven technical expertise, we are looking for someone who thinks ahead, anticipates needs and is an actively engaged supervisor. Team-focused collaborative work methods will help you be successful.
Your Future in this Role:
You will be instrumental in our mission to provide GIS data and services that the community and County employees depend on. As one of three supervisors in the Spatial Services Unit, you will have opportunity to set future direction and develop your data services team, while contributing as a member of the overall IT leadership team.
Core Daily Responsibilities:
- Primary responsibility for the stable daily operations and security of multiple GIS (SQL/SDE) databases that support GIS- and non-GIS County applications, third party applications, operations at partner jurisdictions and extensive field asset collection
- Expert level design, implementation and maintenance of optimized spatial databases that support departmental needs using spatial data management best practices
- Provide integration services for web and desktop applications that rely on GIS databases
- Lead security reviews, disaster recovery planning and proactive testing of disaster recovery plans
- Successful supervision of an established team of 3-4 staff responsible for development, maintenance, acquisition, vetting, and publication of spatial data
- Strategic vision to support critical database growth and architecture needs in a constantly evolving technology field

Qualifications
Recruiting Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Geography or related field AND
- Six or more years of Information Technology/GIS experience
- Additional education or experience may substitute for the recruiting requirements
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Expert level experience with SQL Server 2019, Esri Spatial Database Engine (SDE), SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), TSQL, Python 3.x, Esri ArcPy, Esri ArcGIS Online, ArcMap, ArcCatalog, ArcGISPro, JSON and xml.
- Supervisory experience or documented preparation for a supervisory role
