NATURE OF WORK:

This position provides technical assistance to the Department of Natural Resources finfish, shellfish, and habitat program biologists. The individual will primarily assist the finfish program biologists with Coded-Wire Tag (CWT) sampling, salmon spawning ground/redd surveys, smolt trap operations and estuary beach seining. The individual will also assist with projects being conducted by other program biologists; specifically, vegetation and habitat surveys, shellfish surveys, wildlife surveys. Work shifts may vary dependent on tides, weather, and daylight hours. 

 

 

REPRESENTATIVE JOB DUTIES:

  1. Salmon and Steelhead spawning ground Surveys via raft, foot, and snorkeling.
  2. Carcass sampling- otolith, DNA, Coded-Wire Tag (CWT) and scale collection
  3. Redd pumping, egg collection and transport
  4. Smolt Trap operations
  5. CWT commercial sampling duties.
  6. Assist with Estuary Biological sampling.
  7. Assist with Habitat Program monitoring and vegetation management.
  8. Assist with Wildlife Program Surveys
  9. Assist with Shellfish Program Surveys
  10. Assist with Piloting drones for spawning ground and habitat surveys.
  11. Operation of a 4×4 vehicle and small watercraft
  12. Other duties as assigned.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS ALSO INCLUDE:

  1. High school diploma/GED
  2. Must be physically fit and able to carry out demanding work in rugged terrain, in all weather conditions and on the water.
  3. Able to maintain accurate data and records.
  4. Ability to identify fish species
  5. Ability to identify shellfish species
  6. Ability to identify wildlife species
  7. Prior experience with small boat operations
  8. Familiarity with Skokomish fishing areas and Treaty rights
  9. Candidate must have a valid driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribe’s automobile insurance.
  10. Must be able to work in a team environment.
  11. Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills preferred.
  12. The selected candidate must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen test, and a complete background investigation, including relevant criminal history, prior to employment.
