Salary- $2,552.00 – $3,294.00 Monthly

Duties

Our Fish Hatchery Technician, 

  • Assists in feeding juvenile salmonids.
  • Operates high pressure pumps.
  • Performs manual cleaning with brooms, brushes and vacuums to clean ponds, intakes, tanks, troughs, and egg trays.
  • Assists in recording fish collected, eggs taken, feed fed, and pond mortalities.
  • Maintains the facility including mowing, weed eating, trimming trees and bushes, road maintenance, and net mending.
  • Assists hatchery staff in performing equipment maintenance.

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

  • Work Setting, including hazards:
    • Work is performed outside in all variable conditions – very hot and cold weather extremes.
    • Tasks include frequent strenuous physical activities.
  • Schedule:
    • Typically, work schedule is 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, Monday – Friday.
  • Travel Requirements:
    • No travel.
  • Tools and Equipment:
    • Pickups, four-wheeler, chainsaw, table saw, various shop tools and any other tools required at the hatchery.
  • Customer Interactions:
    • Occasionally will answer questions from the public or refer to permanent staff.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

Certifications/Licenses:

  • A valid driver’s license is required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:

  • Basic fish culture techniques and rearing procedures.
  • Water dynamics (e.g., flows, flow patterns, availability, temperature, etc.).
  • Basic math (add/subtract/multiply/divide); ability to calculate and understand quantities and proportions.
  • Computers and basic understanding of spreadsheets, word processing.
  • Calibration of specialized instruments (e.g., scales, Dissolved Oxygen meters).
  • Safe and proper use and maintenance of tools and equipment.
  • Available resources and guides needed to help complete forms and documents correctly.

Ability to:

  • Identify adult salmonids.
  • Follow and advise on applicable agency policies and procedures.
  • Adhere and follow safety regulations.
