Salary– $2,552.00 – $3,294.00 Monthly
Perform Fish Culture. Tasks include:
- Feed fish and weighs up according to the feeding schedule.
- Monitor fish behavior and health.
- Remove egg and fish production mortalities and disinfects the equipment.
- Identify, sort, and sample species for spawning and adult distribution.
- Clean ponds and raceways, troughs, and incubator systems to maintain fish health.
- Perform fish inventories, splits, grading, marking trailer inventories, weight samples and plants.
- Monitor rearing units for signs of predation and ensures rearing areas are secure.
- Understand correct safety protocols for all hazardous chemicals/drugs used for all treatments and chemical storage/handling, i.e., formalin, anesthetics, paint thinner, gas/diesel, potassium, and other chemicals).
- Scan fish for various tags using coded wire tag wands, pit tag detectors, and other tag associated equipment.
- Monitor water quality parameters using dissolved oxygen meters (calibrates when needed) to ensure a safe rearing environment.
Operate and Maintain facility and equipment. Tasks include:
- Clean/pressure wash empty fish rearing vessels.
- Perform maintenance duties in and around the hatchery and residences to preserve a clean and safe working environment
- Maintain road access to residences, hatchery by plowing, grading, and snow blowers.
- Assist in design/fabrication of needed hatchery equipment.
- Service and maintain small gas engines and hatchery related equipment.
- Wear and use employee safety equipment as directed including, inspecting, cleaning, and repairing it.
- Maintain required safety training through agency training platforms (LMS).
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work Setting, including hazards:
- Work occurs outdoors in all weather conditions. Work requires the ability to repetitively lift and move up 44 lbs.
- Schedule:
- Typically, Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week, 8:00 – 5:00 PM. Work hours can vary greatly depending on schedule and weather conditions.
- Travel Requirements:
- Travel may be required to accomplish agency goals.
- Tools and Equipment:
- Hand and power tools, lawn care equipment, welding equipment, water sampling instruments, passenger vehicles, fish pumps, trash pumps, pressure washers, small gas engines, computers, tractors, Utility Terrain Vehicles (UTVs).
- Customer Interactions:
- General interaction with the public.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduation from high school or GED.
Licenses:
- Valid Driver’s License
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in a hatchery setting.
Desired Knowledge and Abilities:
- Basic fish culture techniques and rearing procedures.
- Basic computer skills, familiarity with Microsoft Outlook and Excel software.
- Basic math skills such as calculating and understanding quantities and proportions.
- Safe and proper use and maintenance of tools and equipment.
