Salary– $2,552.00 – $3,294.00 Monthly

Perform Fish Culture. Tasks include: 

  • Feed fish and weighs up according to the feeding schedule.
  • Monitor fish behavior and health.
  • Remove egg and fish production mortalities and disinfects the equipment.
  • Identify, sort, and sample species for spawning and adult distribution.
  • Clean ponds and raceways, troughs, and incubator systems to maintain fish health.
  • Perform fish inventories, splits, grading, marking trailer inventories, weight samples and plants.
  • Monitor rearing units for signs of predation and ensures rearing areas are secure.
  • Understand correct safety protocols for all hazardous chemicals/drugs used for all treatments and chemical storage/handling, i.e., formalin, anesthetics, paint thinner, gas/diesel, potassium, and other chemicals).
  • Scan fish for various tags using coded wire tag wands, pit tag detectors, and other tag associated equipment.
  • Monitor water quality parameters using dissolved oxygen meters (calibrates when needed) to ensure a safe rearing environment.

Operate and Maintain facility and equipment. Tasks include: 

  • Clean/pressure wash empty fish rearing vessels.
  • Perform maintenance duties in and around the hatchery and residences to preserve a clean and safe working environment
  • Maintain road access to residences, hatchery by plowing, grading, and snow blowers.
  • Assist in design/fabrication of needed hatchery equipment.
  • Service and maintain small gas engines and hatchery related equipment.
  • Wear and use employee safety equipment as directed including, inspecting, cleaning, and repairing it.
  • Maintain required safety training through agency training platforms (LMS).

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

  • Work Setting, including hazards:   
    1. Work occurs outdoors in all weather conditions. Work requires the ability to repetitively lift and move up 44 lbs.
  • Schedule:   
    1. Typically, Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week, 8:00 – 5:00 PM. Work hours can vary greatly depending on schedule and weather conditions.
  • Travel Requirements: 
    1. Travel may be required to accomplish agency goals.
  • Tools and Equipment: 
    1. Hand and power tools, lawn care equipment, welding equipment, water sampling instruments, passenger vehicles, fish pumps, trash pumps, pressure washers, small gas engines, computers, tractors, Utility Terrain Vehicles (UTVs).
  • Customer Interactions:
    1. General interaction with the public.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduation from high school or GED.

Licenses: 

  • Valid Driver’s License

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Experience in a hatchery setting.

Desired Knowledge and Abilities: 

  • Basic fish culture techniques and rearing procedures.
  • Basic computer skills, familiarity with Microsoft Outlook and Excel software.
  • Basic math skills such as calculating and understanding quantities and proportions.
  • Safe and proper use and maintenance of tools and equipment.
