Responsibilities

As a Fish and Wildlife Biologist your duties will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Supervise a team of biologists in accomplishing fish and wildlife conservation using diverse strategies, including: statutory tools related to the natural resources laws (e.g., the Endangered Species Act, National Environmental Policy Act, Clean Water Act, etc.), agency policies, partnerships; and grants and agreements.
  • Facilitates the growth and development of staff by matching their goals with appropriate training needs, detail opportunities, work assignments, etc.
  • Completes all administrative tasks associated with supervision such as: certifying timesheets, approving leave, conducting performance evaluations, managing conduct, and hiring.
  • Reviews team work products to promote accuracy, clarity, compliance with agency policy, and legal defensibility.
  • Manages timelines and sets priorities for completing a diverse and abundant amount of work products.
  • Works with partners to facilitate positive working relationships and achieving conservation goals; negotiates with partners regarding work priorities and completion timelines.
  • Prepares and leads briefings to senior leadership on complicated fish and wildlife conservation issues.
  • Working with others, identifies priority work for the team and sets conservation goals.
  • Works with piers in other parts of the office to facilitate completion of broader projects and conservation goals.
  • Provides guidance to staff on the implementation of federal natural resources laws, such as: Sections 4, 7, and 10 of the Endangered Species Act; Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act; Federal Power Act; and Clean Water Act.
