POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Chelan-Douglas Land Trust (CDLT) seeks a Field Technician to implement on-the-ground land management actions such as habitat restoration, weed control, trail and trailhead maintenance, and hosting community engagement events. CDLT owns over 7,000 acres of eastside Cascade forest, riparian, and shrub steppe habitat. These lands provide public access to over 40 miles of recreational trails. The Field Technician works on CDLT-owned and managed properties under the supervision of Stewardship Director. The Field Technician also works closely with the Land Manager, Trails Project Manager and GIS & Data Manager to support trail construction projects, site mapping efforts, and property monitoring. This position provides training in all the basics of Land Trust operations.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Invasive species control and monitoring – Monitoring and removal of invasive species on preserves and CDLT-managed trails by mapping, mowing, manual removal and herbicide application. 
2. Habitat enhancement/restoration and monitoring – Seeding, planting and watering native plants, vegetation maintenance and mulching. Documenting restoration success with maps and photos.
3. Public Access operations and maintenance – Trail improvement and maintenance, sign and fence repair and maintenance, and trash removal. Trailhead maintenance includes sign installation/repair, stocking trailhead supplies and maintain welcoming sites.
4. Interacting with the public – Serve as a trail ambassador by welcoming visitors, answering questions, sharing information, and maintaining a friendly and approachable demeanor.
5. Data collection – Use ESRI GIS tools to collect information, do field mapping, and complete site monitoring for accreditation compliance.
6. Conservation easement stewardship – Assist with conservation easement monitoring as assigned.
7. Work parties, outreach and education – Assist staff with hosting volunteer work parties, trail data collection, and community engagement events.
8. Staff Communication – Regularly communicate with other staff in person, via phone, messaging, email and other CDLT applications to coordinate field tasks and priorities. Attend weekly staff meetings and field team meetings.
9. Physical Demands – The Field Technician’s work is approximately 80% outside in a variety of forest, stream and shrub steppe environments. The individual will use CDLT vehicles to travel to preserve locations, most in Chelan and Douglas counties. Field work requires standing, walking, carrying a spray backpack, hiking steep and uneven terrain, lifting up to 40 pounds, and using a variety of hand tools. Vision and hearing in normal ranges are necessary.
10. Other duties as assigned.


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
o Interest in helping to shape and improve public access opportunities and support habitat conservation efforts in Chelan and Douglas counties.
o Plant identification experience and interest in learning the local flora and weed identification.
o Ability to obtain and use a WSDA pesticide applicator license; paid training provided on-the-job.
o Experience with trail, facility, and/or landscape maintenance.
o Valid Washington Driver’s license.
o Experience with map reading and GIS/GPS systems.
o Flexibility to accommodate some evening and weekend work parties.
o Able to work independently with general direction; self-motivated.
o Passion for working in a collaborative team environment.
o Practical, problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently with general direction.
o Comfort with the physical demands of the position.
o Ability to interact respectfully with staff, volunteers, trail users, landowners and contractors.
o Skill with communication, organization, and record keeping.
o A demonstrated commitment to land conservation.


EMPLOYMENT STATUS, SALARY AND BENEFITS 
This is a seasonal, non-exempt position that will work 40 hours per week for 9 months from the start date (approx. March 1 – November 30). The hourly pay is $20-24/hour DOE with benefits such as sick leave, vacation, paid holidays, medical, dental, and vision coverage. Field and Office aspects of the position have flexible hours.
