Green Star is accepting applications for the position of Executive Director.

From fundraising and proposal writing, to hands-on electronics recycling and volunteer management, to community outreach, there is never a dull moment in the day of the Green Star ED. Role

The Executive Director is responsible for leading the vision and daily operation of Green Star of Interior Alaska within the framework of the long-range strategy established by the Board of Directors and the ED. The ED is committed to Green Star’s mission to encourage and enable our community to reduce waste and increase recycling.

The Executive Director:

Provides leadership in program development, and organizational and financial plans with the Board of Directors and staff

Carries out plans and policies authorized by the Board

Maintains official records and documents, and ensures compliance with federal, state and local regulations

Maintains a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in local recycling efforts and green business practices

Understands and maintains contractual obligations with a variety of entities

Builds and maintains positive relationships within our community, as permitted by Covid-19 protocols

Salary Range:  $42,500 to $52,000 depending on experience; Salaried, Exempt

Hours: Full-Time

Responsibilities

Fundraising & Communications (60%)

Maintains current and develops new fundraising strategies

Researches, develops, and writes grant proposals to existing and new donors

Expands existing donor network with individuals, businesses, and community organizations

Represents Green Star to the community and acts as the primary public representative for the organization

Seek out and develop partnerships with Alaska organizations to promote, develop, and educate about recycling in Interior Alaska

Leadership & Management (40%)

Maintains and evaluates program goals and progress

Prepares and works within a comprehensive budget

Recruits, trains, and manages paid staff

Maintains a diverse and inclusive work environment for staff and volunteers

Engages, develops, and supports a strong Board of Directors

Collaborates with partners to lead rural backhaul recycling efforts across Interior Alaska

Qualifications and Skills:

Minimum: Bachelor’s degree; training or experience in business, environmental/sustainability fields, communications, and public relations is a plus

Experience working with/for local or regional organizations, preferably non-profits

Experience with hiring and supervising staff

Experience with fundraising, especially with direct person-to-person or person-to-organization contact

Strong marketing and public relations experience

Working knowledge of bookkeeping software, preferably QuickBooks

Working knowledge of donor and volunteer management software such as Bloomerang

Current Driver’s license and personal vehicle (use of personal vehicle is a requirement to attend meetings and perform errands; mileage is reimbursed)

Must pass a background check

Working Conditions:

Following all state, local, and organizational pandemic protocols:

Perform tasks while sitting, standing and walking

Will occasionally be required to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds

Required to work with the public including public speaking for audiences of several hundred, following Covid-19 protocols

Required to work some weekends and occasional holidays

Travel may be required to support specific events, training, and fundraising efforts, once it is safe to do so
