This recruitment is for one full-time, permanent, Equipment Technician 3 (Mechanic) position with the Equipment Shops located in Issaquah, Washington.  Employees who have workstations located in King county receive a 5% premium pay in addition to the salary listed.

Duties

The Equipment Technician 3 is responsible for the complete maintenance, inspection, and repair of Washington State Parks’ fleet of vehicles and grounds equipment.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, service, perform journey-level inspection and make major and minor mechanical repairs on all types of equipment used in highway maintenance or heavy and/or industrial equipment and motorized farm equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance.
  • Order and maintain inventory parts.
  • Meet with sales personnel and vendors to discuss equipment and product availability.
  • Perform price and availability comparisons, analyze data, and make recommendations to supervisor.
  • Inspect, diagnose and make needed repairs to cars, trucks, semi trucks, heavy equipment, mechanical equipment, power shovels, graders, backhoes, dozers, heavy trucks and accessories, snow blowers, loaders, rollers, sweepers, oil distributors, catch basin cleaners, and all other state-owned equipment used in park maintenance and operations.
  • Operate shop equipment: grinders, vacuum gauge, voltage and regulator tester, wheel balancer, drill press, wheel pullers, lathes, jacks, air tools, OBD diagnostic scanner, computerized diagnostic devices and software.
  • Inspect, diagnose and make repairs to industrial/commercial equipment such as: pumps, generators, farm implements, lawn and grounds equipment, including major engine overhauls, tune-ups, relining and adjusting brakes, wheel alignments, transmission and differential replacement and repair and electrical replacement and repair.
  • Layout work for many types of welding jobs.  Work from verbal requests, rough sketches, plans or blueprints.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three (3) years of full-time journey-level experience diagnosing and complete rebuilding of all makes and models of gas-powered vehicles.
  • Three (3) years of full-time journey-level experience diagnosing and complete rebuilding of all makes and models of on and off highway heavy equipment and diesel trucks and trailers.
  • A valid unrestricted (except for corrective lenses) driver’s license.
  • Class A Commercial Driver’s License must be obtained within the first 12 months of employment. (The Agency will cover the cost of the CDL driver training school)

REQUIRED SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to maintain health and safety standards.
  • Ability to operate state motor vehicles, booms, and various hand and power tools.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to problem solve and make independent reasonable decisions.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate Degree in Automotive and Diesel technology from an accredited school.
  • Two (2) years of professional/journey-level experience fabricating and welding.

Note – Personal tools are not required, state owned tools are provided.

UNIFORM INFORMATION:
All Equipment Technicians are required to wear a uniform.  A complete and properly worn uniform helps establish your professional identity and promotes respect as a Washington State Parks employee.  All Equipment Technicians will receive 6 shirts within the first year (2 shirts per calendar year after the first year), 1 jacket every 3 years, 1 baseball cap every year, 1 safety vest every 3 years, a clothing stipend of $200 per year, and a $250 boot stipend every 2 years.  Uniform and boot stipends are intended to offset the cost of clothing worn in the workplace such as pants, boots, raingear, etc.
