What makes this role unique?

This position will have a lot of outside field time in various rivers and streams in western Washington. Hands-on data collection and field measurements can be challenging and keeps things exciting. This position will also help organize, analyze and interpret the data collected in the field to meet the scientific study’s unique objectives. 

 What you will do: 

  • Execute field data logistics, collect water quality samples, flow and related measurements following all established safety procedures. May conduct Winkler titrations and simple analyses.
  • Conduct data compilation and analysis.
  • Extract, plot and review water quality model output or observational data, and conduct basic statistical analyses. 
  • Design, organize, and conduct water quality sampling assessments that support evaluation of impacts to water quality and aquatic ecosystems. Calibrate field instruments, clean and post-check after use. 
  • Conduct clear and direct communication with the laboratory, fill out pre-sampling notification and bottle order forms at least 2 weeks before sampling, fill out lab analysis request forms and submit samples. Prepare data sheets, labels, and sampling containers.
  • Perform field surveys in accordance with EAP’s Programmatic Quality Assurance Project Plan, and related Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Develop QAPPs and related documents and other monitoring project reports.
  • Create maps, basic tables or graphics for reports. 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Experience for both required and desired qualifications can be gained through various combinations of formal professional employment, educational, and volunteer experience. See below for how you may qualify.

A total of Five (5) years of experience and/or education as described below:

  • Professional level Experience in: environmental analysis or control, or environmental planning. 
  • Education involving a major study in: environmental, physical, or one of the natural sciences, environmental planning or other allied field.

OR 

One year of experience as an Environmental Specialist 1, at the Department of Ecology.

 Special Requirements/Conditions of Employment: 
 
 Must have a valid Driver’s License.
