Description
Arcadis is seeking an experienced Environmental Scientist/ Ecologist to join our environmental permitting/ecological services team in Oregon or Washington. The duties of the position may involve ecological studies, agency consultations, permit application preparation, permit compliance, and construction monitoring, for a variety of capital improvement, maintenance, and remediation projects in a variety of client sectors including Oil and Gas, Utility, Rail and Mining.
What you will do:
  • Conduct desktop assessments and field surveys (e.g., habitat evaluations and presence/absence surveys) to evaluate potential project impacts to sensitive habitats or special status species
  • Conduct aquatic resources (e.g., streams and wetlands) delineations, authoring associated reports, and coordinating agency approval
  • Work with the Arcadis client teams to develop project implementation and permitting strategies to efficiently comply with state and federal laws and regulations (e.g., Endangered Species Acts, Migratory Bird Treaty Act, and Sections 401 and 404 of the Clean Water Act)
  • Prepare regulatory permit application packages (e.g., US Army Corps of Engineer Clean Water Act Section 404 permit applications, 401 Water Quality Certification applications, and Section 402 NPDES permit applications)
  • Assist with local, state and federal agency consultations
  • Prepare technical reports such as species surveys, mitigation and monitoring plans, and biological assessments
  • Assist in preparation of NEPA documents for projects including: gathering and analyzing data related to indirect and cumulative impacts and reviewing, interpreting, and integrating various technical studies into NEPA documentation
  • Periodic travel (up to 40 percent of the time)
  • Ability to perform field work in rugged terrain and or remote areas, and work in inclement weather

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, botany or other natural resource related field
  • Three (3) years of experience in the environmental field AND/OR advanced degree in environmental science or similar
  • Knowledge of regional sensitive habitats and special status species
  • Exhibit solid, practical skills in Microsoft Office applications [spreadsheet (Excel), word processing (Word), scheduling (Project)]
  • Strong skills in report writing and editing, interpersonal communication and oral presentation, and organization and planning
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5 years of consulting experience
  • Master’s degree
  • Experience conducting stream and wetland delineations
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to develop comprehensive reports/permit applications
  • Experience with evaluating project compliance with state and federal laws and environmental and regulatory processes – federal, state and local regulators such as PUC, PSC, FERC, BLM, USFS, USFWS, USACE, as well as experience with NEPA
  • Experience with the environment and species of the Pacific Northwest (OR, WA, ID)
  • Experience in the environmental consulting industry
  • Knowledgeable in the use digital data collection tools including GPS technology and GIS programs desirable
