Part-time/Full-time Environmental Scientist 48 North Solutions, Inc.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Environmental Scientist position at 48 North Solutions, Inc. (48 NORTH) is a position ideally suited for a recently graduated student seeking experience in both environmental policy and aquatic-based fieldwork. The environmental scientist is expected to assist on projects involving state and federal regulatory permit applications. They will support the development of biological assessments, permit applications, and drafting project descriptions to match the requirements of a review agency. The environmental scientist will assist with fieldwork, as necessary, be it macroinvertebrate sampling, electrofishing, wetland delineation, or environmental monitoring. Most importantly, a successful applicant for this position will be flexible and willing to help the project team with wide ranging tasks such as printing, editing, creating figures to support documents. This is primarily an office position. Working hours are flexible based on the project needs.

This position provides an excellent introduction to the state and federal environmental permitting process. The environmental scientist will gain an intimate knowledge of environmental permitting and how the federal, state, and local environmental regulatory processes work in practice.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Environmental Science, or related field. Preferably a Master’s degree.

• Positive attitude and ability to work independently and as a part of the team.

• Strong writing skills and ability to learn on the job.

• Excellent research skills to find needed information on things such as species present in an area, their natural history, or county-specific tax parcel information.

• Strong organizational skills required to work on multiple projects concurrently

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• ArcGIS with Metadata experience beneficial
