The Mountain School is a semester-long, residential academic program for high school juniors set on four hundred acres in central Vermont. Each fall and spring semester, 45 students from across the country join our campus where they take academic classes, participate in our farm and outdoor programs, and build a diverse and interdependent community of scholars.

We are a predominantly white independent school that has been diversifying its faculty and student body over recent years. Our admissions efforts have focused on recruiting BIPOC as well as public school students. We also offer full funding through need-based scholarships.

This position is a full-time position which includes duties such as

● Teaching 2-3 sections of Honors Environmental Science

● Working with students on the farm and in the woods

● Advising up to three students

● Parenting a dorm several evenings a week

● Working with students on the weekends

The successful candidate will:

● Have at minimum a Bachelor’s degree

● Be ready to live and work in rural Vermont

● Have experience working with BIPOC and other marginalized students

● Have demonstrated commitment to social justice and inclusion

● Have demonstrated knowledge of climate justice

Salary is based on experience, starting at 40,000, and full-time positions include medical benefits. This is currently a two-year position with the option to negotiate your contract after one year. We are facing a unique moment of curriculum review which may lead to a redefinition of positions for the long term. We are, nonetheless, committed to retaining faculty who are committed to our transformation.

The Mountain School encourages candidates who would add to the racial, cultural, and gender diversity of the school community. The Mountain School is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
