Salary$4,120-$5,084

Working Conditions:
Work may be performed in an office and outdoors. Employees in this classification can be exposed to a variety of weather conditions, walking in rough terrain, or boating in rough waters. Physical hazard may result from working in proximity of heavy equipment and inspecting deep excavations subject to cave-in.  May be exposed to pathogenic bacteria. Heavy lifting in excess of 50 lbs. may be required. May occasionally work evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental health, biology, bacteriology or related field.
  • One year of professional environmental health work experience requiring extensive public contact.
  • Must have current Washington State Driver’s License.

Desired Skills

  • Knowledge of theory, principles, and practices of environmental health science, biology, epidemiology, hydrology, and soils science.
  • Experience with onsite sewage system regulations, permitting, and evaluation.
  • Ability to compile and maintain complete and accurate records.
  • Versed in sanitary survey methods and other pollution identification & correction strategies.
  • Knowledge of water quality monitoring techniques
  • Ability to exercise skill and judgement in dealing tactfully with the public while educating and maintaining good public relations.
  • Knowledge of the Health Code, and related federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Experience with using databases.
  • May be required to possess professional certifications applicable to area of assignment (eg, Wastewater Treatment System Inspection Certification, Qualified Sanitary Surveyor, etc).
  • Ability to utilize a personal computer and related software packages to perform word processing, analysis, information retrieval and tracking.
