Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually NWR AmeriCorps Education Coordinator

Thousands of students annually experience field trips to Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge, an oasis of wildness wedged between Olympia and Tacoma in South Puget Sound. The Education Coordinator conducts activities directly with students during the indoor time at the refuge’s Environmental Education Center. They also explore refuge trails with student to provide information and conduct outdoor activities. The Coordinator recruits, trains, and coordinates environmental education program volunteers; plans and implements teacher workshops; will review and evaluate current education center activities and will adapt activities for different grade levels and state standards; assist in special events like the annual Nisqually Watershed Festival; and serve alongside watershed partners to provide specialized environmental education programming for under-served students in the Nisqually and Chehalis Watersheds. We have a strong history of launching our AmeriCorps members on successful careers; and members earn an education award and a noncompetitive hiring certificate for applying for federal jobs.
