Ecological Restoration Crew Member – This position is subject to project funding and duration.

Status: On-call/part-time/hourly.Wage Range: $16/hour or prevailing wage as required by Project.

Reports to: Ecological Programs Manager

The Environmental Crew Member assists in the realization of Circuit Rider’s ecological restoration goals by working in the field on a variety of projects related to the restoration and preservation of California ecosystems.

Work includes native plant revegetation, invasive species removal, fire fuels management and the monitoring and maintenance of environmental restoration projects. Work can be physically demanding; and the benefits include a positive team environment, career development support, and the gratification of helping community members and the local environment. The Environmental Crew Member position is an at-will, on-call position, and employment is subject to the fluctuations in weather, funding and project needs. While this position is specifically project based, there is the potential for additional work.

This is a paid job and is part of a workforce development program for transition age youth, ages 18-25.

Examples of duties to be performed:

  • Perform physical work such as gardening, planting, weeding, removal of invasive plant species, picking up litter, restoring waterways, and improvement and beautification of local parks and designated community areas.
  • Follow the directions of the Crew Leader(s).
  • Work as part of a team.
  • Maintain a safe working environment per instruction of the site supervisor(s).
  • Handles hand and/or power tools safely.
  • Performs some construction and building duties related to these projects.
  • Follows COVID, PPE and other safety protocols.
  • Conduct oneself in a manner that positively represents Circuit Rider SocialServices.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Be legally able to work in the United States.
  • Knowledge and basic familiarity with various hand and/or power tools (preferred).
  • Communicate proactively with supervisors about schedules and work tasks.
  • Maintain a positive, hard-working, and safety-oriented attitude while at work.

Physical Requirements: Standing/sitting intermittently throughout the day, walking, hiking and climbing on uneven/rough terrain, working outdoors in inclement weather, lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs., alone or with assistance. Lifting and carrying over 50 pounds will be done with assistance. Continuous bending and stooping throughout the day, operating various hand tools and/or power tools safely.Circuit Rider complies with all local, state and Cal-OSHA safety requirements including masks, social distancing, PPE and equipment and vehicle cleaning.
