The Development Team leads the organization’s philanthropy and communications efforts, engaging, educating, and empowering staff, volunteers, and supporters to work for a just and sustainable food future. We build long term relationships with individuals, businesses, foundations, and government agencies that result in philanthropic investments, volunteerism, and advocacy. Our Development Team focuses on building ongoing and deep relationships at every level that advance our mission.

Position Description

The Development Project Manager oversees and administers information management and reporting for the Development Team, using Salesforce as well as other organization-wide tools. The DPM manages Tilth Alliance’s membership program and is responsible for building lasting relationships with current members and increasing membership numbers over time. The position plans and executes comprehensive online fundraising campaigns like GiveBIG and Giving Tuesday, and supports the Director of Development in implementing successful year-end and other periodic giving campaigns, as well as supporting any data needs associated with major gift solicitations. The DPM develops and maintains dashboards in Salesforce to help the team track progress on various campaigns and events. This position plays a critical planning and supporting role in all Tilth Alliance fundraising and friend-raising events, as well as the annual Tilth Conference and Edible Plant Sale.

Responsibilities Include

Informatics Management

  • Establishes and maintains policies and procedures for protecting donor information and giving, ensuring Tilth Alliance remains compliant with PCI regulations for data security; works to ensure Salesforce CRM and supporting business software systems operate at optimal efficiency and functionality. 
  • Develops and implements cross-departmental business system policies and procedures that ensure donor and volunteer data integrity. Responsible for assessing all processes for data entry, migration, and reconciliation across multiple systems. 
  • Responsible for creating an accurate suite of fundraising performance reports and tools for all front line fundraising efforts 
  • Works with appropriate staff to create a comprehensive reporting plan and timeline, and ensures tasks are executed as scheduled; develops, implements, and improves reporting processes and procedures; ensures the best data possible is provided in all reporting

Frontline Fundraising

  • Plans, manages, and implements online fundraising campaigns like GiveBIG and Giving Tuesday, including pre-campaign planning, post-campaign debrief, communications schedule creation, theme and artistic concept development, mailing list segmentation and creation, and day-to-day management of and reporting on these efforts. 
  • Supports all of Tilth Alliance’s individual giving efforts by building, managing, and implementing creative technology systems and working with the Director of Development on appropriate fundraising strategies based on data. 
  • Monitors all annual giving activities in Salesforce by tracking results and analyzing the effectiveness of fundraising methods and messages; designs and analyses data to adapt and improve outcomes. 
  • Supports donor stewardship and outreach, including written communications, events, visits, and other activities to ensure excellent stewardship and donor services. 
  • Troubleshoots any issues donors or members may have with donation processing, providing exemplary and timely service as needed. 
  • Supports morale of Development Team staff to manifest an effective fundraising atmosphere and successful campaigns. 
  • In cooperation with the Communications Manager, maintains an editorial calendar to promote fundraising events and campaigns on multiple social media platforms.

Grant Support

  • Researches and identifies grant opportunities. 
  • Keeps grant-related documents and other materials organized to make them easily accessible to program directors and others working on grant applications. 
  • Manages grants calendar across all departments and ensures that submission and reporting deadlines are met for all grants. 
  • Supports grant writing and submission efforts as needed.

Team and Organizational Collaboration

  • Collaborates with all Development Team staff on creating, implementing, and managing goals and operating plans. 
  • Coordinates with the volunteer program manager in order to support development goals, program needs, and to enhance community awareness and engagement in mission.
  • Works with the Director of Development and Development Team to develop an annual team budget. 
  • Supports and attends Advancement events as needed, including volunteer events, donor receptions, the annual Tilth Conference, Edible Plant Sale, and more.

Desired Qualifications and Attributes

  • Advanced proficiency in Salesforce or other CRM systems, online giving platforms, and other fundraising technology. Proficiency in Microsoft Office; ability to research and learn new business software programs. 
  • At least 3 years’ experience in fundraising and/or other related position; or combination of education and experience to successfully perform duties of the job.
  • Demonstrated understanding of fundraising principles and practices.
  • Understanding of gift processing, accounting, and budgeting laws, practices, and principles. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills, both written and verbal which transcend diverse audiences. 
  • Demonstrated administrative skills, including record-keeping, reporting, and organizational skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in teams, as well as provide high-quality service to a wide variety of internal and external constituents. 
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a professional demeanor, especially while working in a fast paced environment of constant demands and frequent interruptions. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote a positive working environment, spirit of cooperation, and positive reactions to change. 
  • Commitment to maintain confidentiality and a high degree of accuracy. 
  • Self-directed and able to work independently as well as with a team. 
  • Must be willing to work occasional evenings or additional hours as required.

This is a full-time, exempt position that requires some evening and weekend work. It is eligible for benefits including medical, dental, vision insurance; employee-funded Flexible Spending Account for qualified childcare, healthcare, and transportation expenses; paid vacation, sick and holiday time. This position will be based at the main office in Wallingford with flexible options for remote work. Salary range for project management level positions is approximately $44K – $52K.
