Nature & Purpose of the Position

Pierce Conservation District (PCD) is seeking a Data Technician to assist in the coordination of data management for the District’s GIS and CRM Programs. This is a part-time, non-permanent contract position that will work within the Program Support team, performing basic quality checks and publishing of GIS and CRM data, as well as assisting the GIS Program Manager in utilizing GIS data for quantitative analysis, map publishing, and supporting District programs with other basic technical support services.

Primary Job Responsibilities

The Data Technician reports to the Climate Resiliency Program Manager/GIS Program Manager, and is responsible for the following: 

  • Quality check and convert data collected from field operations and program strategic data tracking into GIS and CRM databases with proper and accurate spatial location
  • Geocode and tag address information
  • Coordinate data synthesis and collection of data across programs
  • Assist with the design of GIS program data dictionaries, which includes metadata, projection setting, field settings, and domains
  • Assist with the data conceptual design and classification of organizational rules for a Customer Relationship Management system
  • Manage permissions and publishing schedules to SQL, ArcGIS Server, and ArcGIS Online Systems for online and offline use

Qualifications

We’re seeking candidates who are adaptable, team-oriented, and engaging. You should have:

  • 30 hours of completed college course work related to GIS or other data management techniques/training
  • Thorough, detail and goal oriented, and understands the “big picture” of database management and design
  • Good communicator, explicit and timely responsiveness to task work, and thrives in collaborative team environments

Desired Skills

  • Certificate or college degree in Geography, Cartography, GIS or closely related field
  • One year of experience in GIS database/mapping/other data management systems
  • Ability to collect, analyze and summarize GIS data
  • Ability to georeference/geocode data
  • Basic knowledge of cartographic design
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software
  • Exposure to the conservation field industry
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Organization and time management skills

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Work will occur largely within an office or remote work setting, with the potentiality of in field locations (e.g. farm, riparian, and urban properties). The Technician must be comfortable working outside in all weather conditions. Applicable field gear and equipment will be provided by PCD. Work vehicles will also be provided, for use with a valid driver’s license.

Licenses, Certificates & Other Requirements

Valid Washington State driver’s license at time of appointment with maintenance thereafter, or evidence of equivalent mobility.

Compensation & Benefits

Estimated number of hours will be 300-350 with an hourly rate of $15.25-18.25 per hour.
