Position Summary

The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is a global conservation organization dedicated to conserving the lands and waters on which all life depends. Guided by science, our teams create innovative, on-the-ground solutions to our world’s toughest challenges so that nature and people can thrive together. The Jack and Laura Dangermond Preserve is a 24,364-acre property that sits at Point Conception—the sharp corner of coastline that gives California its distinctive crook. The land has been kept intact, free from significant development for nearly 100 years. Under the management of TNC since 2018, this exceptional landscape serves as a living laboratory forthe conservation science needed to inform the management and restoration of this remarkable landscape and similar landscapes and seascapes around the world.

The Preserve Scientist will help design and manage a robust science enterprise at the Preserve, in close partnership with the Point Conception Institute (a program of TNC), the University of California, and other academic institutions, agencies and organizations. The Preserve Scientist will ensure the coordination of research by multiple researchers and entities—both within and beyond TNC—in order to maximize efficiency and collaboration, ensure scientific rigor and best practices, protect the natural and cultural resources during scientific activities, and facilitate the application of science in restoration and conservation efforts on the Preserve.
