Duties
What you’ll do:
- Conduct investigations to identify construction stormwater discharges within the Southwest Region.
- Respond to and investigate construction stormwater complaints in cooperation with other programs.
- Recommend actions and procedures necessary to bring dischargers into compliance, including the use of formal and informal enforcement actions.
- Respond to inquiries for technical assistance requiring scientific knowledge of topics such as contaminated stormwater construction sites.
- Represent the program in the area of construction stormwater.
- Develop partnerships with communities, businesses, and interest groups in order to identify and respond to environmental issues affecting the common interest.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Experience for both required and desired qualifications can be gained through various combinations of formal professional employment, educational, volunteer and lived-experience. See below for how you may qualify.
Option 1: Six (6) years of experience and/ or education:
- Education: involving major study in environmental, physical, or one of the natural sciences, environmental planning or other allied field.
- Experience: in environmental analysis or control or environmental planning. Experience may include a combination of the following:
- Investigating environmental complaints or violations.
- Writing scientific/inspection reports or documents.
- Recommending compliance or enforcement options.
Option 2:
- A Bachelor’s degree involving major study in environmental, physical, or one of the natural sciences, environmental planning or other allied field.
- Two (2) years of experience in environmental analysis or control or environmental planning. Experience may include a combination of the following:
- Investigating environmental complaints or violations.
- Writing scientific/inspection reports or documents.
- Recommending compliance or enforcement options.
Option 3:
- A Master’s degree involving major study in environmental, physical, or one of the natural sciences, environmental planning or other allied field.
- One (1) year of experience in environmental analysis or control or environmental planning. Experience may include a combination of the following:
- Investigating environmental complaints or violations.
- Writing scientific/inspection reports or documents.
- Recommending compliance or enforcement options.
Option 4:
- A PhD involving major study in environmental, physical, or one of the natural sciences, environmental planning or other allied field.
Special Requirements/Conditions of Employment:
- Must have a valid driver’s license
Desired Qualifications:

- CESCL (Certified Erosion & Sediment Control) training
- Water quality sampling experience or training
- Experience with environmental regulatory systems.
Note: Having some (or all) of this desired experience may make your application more competitive in a highly competitive applicant pool.
