With that in mind, 

Picture yourself being responsible for inspecting and reporting on virtually every phase of the construction process – including civil (site work), structural, building, electrical, mechanical and safety.

This is an opportunity to ensure that all contract documents represented by working drawings and specifications are properly executed by the contractors.

With your experience, you will work closely with team members and WDFW supervisors/managers while dealing tactfully and positively with engineers, architects, and others in the private sector as well as state officials.

The optimal candidates take pride in their work, use sound judgment on difficult engineering and architectural problems, and can understand written and oral directions, specifications, and plans.

Our Construction Project Coordinator 1’s,   

  • Inspect and monitor construction sites to ensure overall compliance.
  • Use survey instruments, metering devices, tape measures, and test equipment, such as concrete strength measurers to perform inspections.
  • Ensure the contractor is compliant with the plans and specifications for the project and communicates project status with the project engineer.
  • Maintain daily logs and supplement inspection records with photographs.
  • Prepare detailed activity, progress, and inspection reports, noting all potential problems observed.
  • Manage Public Works, Limited Public Works and In-House Projects to ensure project scope meet expectations and the projects are on schedule and within budget.
  • Develop scope, schedule, and budget for assigned Public Works projects.
  • Work with the construction crew to accomplish in-house construction projects.
  • Act as a liaison between the engineering office staff and the Public Works contractor, evaluating progress payments, negotiating change orders, and clarifying the construction requirements established in the plans and specifications.

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

  • Work Setting, including hazards:    
    1. Work is performed in an office setting, on construction sites and at Hatcheries/Wildlife areas.
    2. Field work includes working in inclement/adverse weather conditions, walking on uneven terrain/steep slopes for extended periods of time, climbing ladders, working from boats, and working from elevated locations.
    3. Teleworking options may currently be available for office work.
  • Schedule: 
    1. Typically, Monday – Friday – 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
    2. Workload demands may require work outside the assigned work hours and adjustment of work schedules.
  • Travel Requirements:   
    1. Travel is required throughout the State to meet the business needs of the Department and assigned projects.
    2. Travel occurs often, may be required to travel the entire work week.   
  • Tools and Equipment:   
    1. Computer hardware and software, multi-line phones, testing equipment materials and motor vehicles.
  • Customer Interactions:         
    1. Frequent customer and vendor interactions, varying between Federal, Local, Inter-Agency, and Intra-Agency.
Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Highschool Diploma or GED.

AND

  • Two (2) years of experience in project or construction management.

AND 

Voluntary, academic, or professional experience with the following: 

  • Principles of project management for building construction.
  • Principles and practices of engineering and architecture related to design and construction of buildings.
  • Fundamentals of electrical and structural engineering.
  • Effectiveness and energy conservation aspects of various air conditioning and heating systems, water and wastewater systems.
  • Accessories for electrical systems, and hardware that adds to convenience, comfort, efficiency, safety, and handicapped accessibility of complex buildings.
  • Cost estimating, administrative procedures and systems relating to capital projects and supervisory principles and practices.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.

Competencies: 

  • Effective communication including verbal, written and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively both independently and in a team-based environment.
  • Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
  • Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, collaborative, and analytical skills with a customer focus.
  • Must be able to foster and maintain sound working relationships.

Certifications/Licenses:

  • Driver’s license recognized as valid under Washington State Law and acceptable driving record.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in architecture, naval architecture, engineering, building construction, marine engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Professional experience in architecture, naval architecture, engineering, building construction, marine engineering, or a closely related profession.
  • Certifications in inspection.
  • Certifications in materials testing.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR Certification.
