This recruitment is for one full-time, permanent Construction & Maintenance Project Supervisor position for the Salish Foothills Area located at Camano Island State Park in Island County, Washington.

Duties

Under the direct supervision of the Area Manager, this position supervises journey level workers performing skilled work in at least two skilled trades.  These workers operate water and sewer systems in multiple parks.  The C&M Supervisor coordinates and leads the maintenance program within the park management area and supervises the staff that performs maintenance duties on buildings, sewer and water systems, utility systems, roads, trails, marine facilities, vehicles and equipment.  This position will supervise construction, repair and production activities and work crews within the area including work sites in remote locations.  The C&M Supervisor serves an important role, under the direction of the Area Manager, as the primary interface with the Region Maintenance Manager and Maintenance Chief on the state and region wide maintenance objectives and priorities.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervise Area Maintenance Staff – 
    • Mentor staff, complete performance management and administrative tasks and duties.
    • Train, and provide training opportunities to staff, recommend disciplinary and corrective actions.  Conduct interviews and hiring and develop work plans and evaluations.
    • Maintain staff training and safety records, maintain health and safety standards.
    • Schedule, direct, coordinate and supervise an area maintenance crew in the various phases of new construction and facility maintenance.
    • Conduct and provide training to all staff who operate equipment.
    • Conduct purchasing responsibilities and budget recommendations.
  • Administration –
    • Approve time sheets, purchasing card logs, requisitions, training requests, leave requests and prepare reports.
    • Report equipment failure and make recommendations to supervisor on future equipment needs.
    • Prepare and track operational and capital project requests.
    • Perform routine inspections of facilities and equipment and provide reports to Area Manager.
    • Order supplies and materials.
    • Work with Area Safety Officer to ensure regular safety meetings and training.
  •  Facilities Maintenance –
    • As a working supervisor, perform maintenance work in carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, water systems, wastewater systems and equipment repair.
    • Responsible for the coordination and completion of preventative, deferred, routine and emergency and unforeseen maintenance within the area.
  • Water and wastewater system operation –
    • Monitor and maintain portable water distribution systems and wastewater systems in the area to protect public health and comply with applicable state and federal drinking water laws and regulations.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two (2) years of experience and completion of a recognized apprenticeship in at least two skilled trades, OR Four (4) years of applicable work experience or vocational training, OR Two (2) years of experience as a Construction & Maintenance Project Lead.
  • A valid unrestricted (except for corrective lenses) driver’s license.
  • Class A Commercial Driver’s License must be obtained within 12 months of employment.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Experience in the interpretation of Parks and Recreation policies.
  • Experience in training and guiding others in construction and safety rules.
  • Skilled in the use of software such as Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • One (1) year of experience in leading others.
  • One (1) year of supervisory experience.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools, work from blueprint and sketches, estimate materials and costs, keep time and material records, plan and supervise the work of others.

UNIFORM INFORMATION:
All Construction & Maintenance Supervisors are required to wear a uniform.  A complete and properly worn uniform helps establish the professional identity of a Construction & Maintenance staff member and promotes respect as a Washington State Parks employee.  All Construction & Maintenance Supervisors will receive 6 shirts within the first year (2 shirts per calendar year after the first year), 1 jacket every 3 years, 1 baseball cap every year, 1 safety vest every 3 years, and a clothing stipend of $200 per year, and a $250 boot stipend every 2 years.  Uniform stipends are intended to offset the cost of clothing worn in the workplace such as pants, boots, raingear, etc.Supplemental Information
