YOUR POSITION WITH TNC

The Conservation Associate provides project management, research, and other general assistance to program staff working toward the achievement of conservation, transaction, partnership and stewardship goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Conservation Associate will support the Lands team in Washington (specifically Transactions, Stewardship, and Forest Conservation programs), including real estate project support, team coordination and support, internal and external communications, compliance, information management, and other support as needed.

Essential functions include:

Direct Project Support for Transactions (50%)

  • Assist with real estate and other transactional matters, including property and title research, due diligence contracting, project record management, and generating project approval packages.
  • Manage and update corporate and legal databases with information related to transactions, legal ownership, and stewardship; maintain electronic and physical program files.
  • Draft and manage leases on properties owned by the Conservancy.
  • Draft and manage real estate related contracts as directed (e.g., for appraisal services, contracted surveys, etc.).
  • Assist in tracking timelines, tasks, and deliverables for the overall portfolio of Transactions projects.

Direct Project Support for Stewardship (20%)

  • Manage and pay property taxes and other local assessments, maintain and apply for tax exemptions, and coordinate payments in lieu of taxes.
  • Support annual property monitoring obligations by compiling records generated by field staff and preparing reports for review by counsel.
  • Support property-related needs of Stewardship team, interpreting deed/easement language, conducting boundary research, and updating preserve management plans.

Programmatic Roles (30%)

  • Respond to landowner inquiries by providing referrals to partner organizations or elevating opportunities to Conservation and Transactions staff.
  • Assist with documenting program accomplishments, tracking outcome metrics, and preparing reports to senior management, board, and donors.
  • Prepare agendas, schedule and coordinate logistics for special meetings, retreats, field trips, and other events for Conservation programs.
  • Generate external and internal program communications and content, including maintaining internal intranet sites for assigned program areas and generating program publications and reports.
  • Serve as project manager for special projects, as directed. This includes managing and/or tracking project timelines, tasks and deliverables.
  • Calendaring team meetings, documenting content and action items, and facilitating post-meeting accountability.
  • Other support functions may include equipment management and purchasing, office management, property stewardship, preparing reports and presentations, researching conservation topics and issues.

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2 years related work experience OR Associate’s degree and 4 years related work experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience completing tasks independently with respect to timeline(s).
  • Experience working across teams and communicating with a wide range of people.
  • Experience coordinating multiple projects.
  • Experience in business writing, editing and proofreading.
  • Experience with common software applications such as Microsoft Office suite.
