Compensation: $18.00/hour, depending on experience.

The Washington State Crop Improvement Association (WSCIA) is seeking a part-time seasonal Conifer Seed Inspector in Western Washington. WSCIA is responsible for certification of small grain, chickpea, lentil, pea, buckwheat, sorghum, and millet seed, along with forest reproductive materials.

This position is responsible for verifying and documenting conifer seed produced in portions of the PNW that meets the requirements for certification under the international OECD standards. This role acts as a liaison between the Northwest Tree Seed Certifiers Association (NWTSCA) and member entities who produce conifer seed for export. The inspector will visit cone and seed producers to document the quantities and identifying information for a range of conifer species. This position is part-time and seasonal, with peak hours occurring during the northwest cone- ripening months, primarily September through December, and the cone and seed processing months, primarily October through February or later depending on crop quantity.

Primary duties include but are not limited to:
● Verify origin of conifer cones to zone, elevation, and selected stands as appropriate.
● Count and inventory conifer cone bushels and produce reports.
● Inventory and certify seed produced from registered cones following cone processing.
● Must be available for travel throughout the state of Washington and parts of Oregon as needed to verify cone origin.

Required qualifications:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
• High level of professionalism with the ability to act in a helpful, pleasant manner with customers.
• Must be able to interact with others by telephone, email, and in person.
• Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
• Must be able to perform duties without direct supervision.
• Ability to work independently and set and meet goals and deadlines.

Physical qualifications: Must be able to sit, stand or drive for long periods of time.
